Binding help.....

Hi Everyone,

I need your help...I'm working on a table runner project....it's still in the rough as you'll be able to tell by the photo - I've completed the top, and did the backing/batting.....and did machine quilting around the stars....but haven't trimmed the outside yet....to get ready for the binding....

My question is - does anyone have a link to a site that tells me how to do the binding - with the mitered corners...I took it in a class one time and now can't remember...I would appreciate any help..

Thanks,

Bill

Beautiful table runner Bill. Here is a link that shows great pics of the steps for mitered corners.
Sharon Schamber also has one using Elmers glue instead of pins for the binding. This is Sharon's video and another is posted in the link.

I tried the glue and it works very well and washes out well. A small amount is placed in a thin line on the quilt and the binding is placed on and ironed to dry. The mitered corners turn out perfect.

Love the runner. The colors are wonderful. Quilterscache also has some directions for binding. Scroll down a bit for mitered corners.

It looks to me like you'll be backing it in the same fabric you used for the printed panels. What type of quilting do you plan on using for this pattern? I am still struggling with what kinds of patterns to use when I quilt over printed material with a definite picture on them like the large flower. I have been doing mostly echo quilting on my geometric patterns, but am hoping to do one with larger blocks with pictures and am worried about distorting the print so that the effect is lost.

    Hi Calliope,
Yes, the binding will be the floral print - I've also backed it in this fabric....
I machine quilted around the 3 stars about 1/4" from the seam...and I did the stitch-in-the-ditch technique around the green border...I'm not sure that I'll do more for this piece......
    Have a great day!

Hi Bill, love the runner - you could attach the binding to the back of the runner and then turn it and hand stitch on the back - this is how i am doing my quilt

    Have a nice day

I recently found some great videos on YouTube for quilt binding. I don't have the link, but if you do a search on "quilt binding" you could probably find it. It really helps me to watch someone actually do it. There is a great one on "quilt binding ends" that shows an easy technique for joining the last ends, that I've never seen before, and no measuring.
Once at a quilt show long ago, I watched a lady demo the steps of mitered binding on a 6-inch square sample. She gave me her sample! I keep this treasure in the top drawer of my sewing machine for reference. One corner shows only the first part, and another corner shows the finished steps. A great reference tool I refer to often.
