How you approach it has a lot to do with the type of grant you are requesting. My company has a professional grant writer; her advice is to write the proposal so the focus is on the outcome. What will it do for your community? Why is the world a better place if YOUR group gets the money? If the grant is for education, then talk about the number of people who could be educated and how they will, in turn, educate others. If the grant is for historical preservation, talk about the rich history of quilts in America and how through this teacher you will be preserving a valuable tradition. If it's through a community service group, talk about how having your group of quilters trained it will enhance their benefit to the community through the quilts they are inspired to make for the elderly, babies, chronically ill children, etc. Don't talk about why you want it or why you think your group deserves it more than another group does.
