Since part of my story involves the floor in my kitchen, I thought I could post it here, since you all are so supportive and full of ideas on how to deal with situations when we are "wronged".
Yesterday was Friday the 13th, plus 1 week. Turns out, that isn't such a great day. I went and picked up my 2 marble slabs (they are beautiful and I do love them, so apparently I am NOT jaded). I was just going to come back to our townhouse and not visit the job site. But my gut kept pulling at me. In fact I drove a long way around and finally went. It was odd, I was torn.
I drove up to see a couple of vans. Oooo, wonder who is working in here today. I went in and voila! Hardwood Floors! Gorgeous chocolate brown. Much better than I thought (I had 4 choices of wood color).
But then I looked closer
:o
No one spoke English in there, so I immediately walked out to the garage, found a box...yep....2 1/4". We spec'd 3 1/4".
:o
The site supervisor was next door doing some stuff. I marched over to him. He knew my look...I told him they were installing the WRONG FLOOR.
Panic set in. Apparently a wild fire of calls and emails were circulating through the company and up the chain of command. It was the Purchasing Department's Fault. Everything indicated it should have been 3 1/4" wide, but somewhere they wrote "standard" on the order form and that is what the supplier ordered and INSTALLED.
I was getting calls from my realtor (they called her to see if she could help them out), I met her at the house so she could see it.
It is more than 50% completed by the time I found this mistake. They are willing to make concessions. My husband and I looked at it, we think we can live with it, but we are going to ask them to install it in 2 additional rooms where we didn't have it downstairs and my upstairs hallway.
The realtor feels that we will be able to get this. The cost for them to rip it all out and throw it away and buy the new stuff, be delayed is just too much. We feel that throwing it away is a huge waste and we would never want to do that.
So cross your fingers the deal should be going down today.
Ah, and the kicker is, the guy we dealt with when doing the plans and negotiations is away for a "guys' weekend" in Florida. He has become a friend and is building right next door in fact. I'm sure he has heard about this big mistake by now. He's probably a little afraid to call.
And that is not all...
When I went back to the house around 4 with the realtor, my ace tile guy (who I am not very happy with) told me that he hoped I didn't pay a lot for my tile in the laundry room because it is cheap. (It is marble tile from Mission STone & Tile), it is NOT cheap tile. I think he has never seen marble. He was trying to score the 12x24 pieces and snap them. Well, guess what? "Yes they do crumble when you do that you jacka$$" is what went through my mind. Good thing I do have filter or it would have just come out. I told him "don't you have a wet saw?", he said "yeah I'm using a saw now". A dry saw. OMG. I contacted MS&T right away and verified it was a real marble tile, and she confirmed yes, and he should be using a wet saw. I'm just taking deep breaths. He managed to get it done. Here's the tile:
And finally....right before I left the house during this late afternoon visit, a man showed up to put the slate hearth in place on one side of the see through fireplace. Slate? I thought I chose marble. He said, no slate. Hmm. I went home to check my selections. Marble it says. Sent the superivisor a note. He checked his sheet, it says slate. Late last night I emailed him my copy, "marble". Who knows...
So today I had a little online retail therapy to make me feel better! It certainly helped that Overstock sent me 10% off coupon today! Wanna see?
I bought 2 lights. One for my bathroom, over the tub. I thought I wanted a more "hanging chandelier", but came to realize, it is only an 8' ceiling. And how low can you go over a tub? This one is 18" tall, so I think it will work out niceley:
And for my breakfast room, I found this beauty. (Remember I have the crystal chandy over the island) I told my hubby if we don't want it for there, I will certainly use it in the dining room. The breakfast room has the killer views of the creek. I didn't want anything too "thck" that would block the view. I think this one will fit the bill:
Thanks for listening to my saga.
