I Found A Dining Room Set!!!

. . . and I forgot my darn camera!!!!!!! I'm so mad at myself! I stopped into a consignment shop this morning and there was this incredibly carved, solid, huge mahogany table and chairs right in front of me. I thought I was dreaming for a minute! Anyhoo, it's not a really old one, but it's carved all over and is very heavy. It's got 2 arm chairs and 4 side chairs, all big and carved beautifully with wonderful, comfy, padded leather seats. It has two 18" leaves that(get this!) are carved along the edges. The total lenght with both leaves in is almost ten feet. The price is right. It's in very good shape. They can probably deliver them before the weekend, which is good because we have family coming in for the long holiday weekend.

The only problem I can foresee is that the only pics I have of it are on my cell phone! As far as I know, I have no way to get them onto my computer so that DH can see enough to give me the go-ahead to buy them tomorrow. He's got to make a decision based on these MANY little cell phone pics! I need to let this place know by noon tomorrow, as a movie company also wants to buy it for a movie they're making here.

I'm hoping he can get away from the office early enough to meet me there before his golf game tomorrow.

Thanks to the very informative dining room table thread here, I really checked out the chairs for comfort . . . they're heavenly!

It's not a version of Duncan Phyfe, so there are no legs splaying out from the two pedestals. I like this one's pedestal bases, although they're hard to explain.

Keep your fingers crossed for me that DH likes this set and I can get it. I'll keep you posted.

It sounds very interesting, tho it seems that it would not have enough chairs to allow you to really make use of the leaves.

What about buying it yourself and then leasing it to the movie company? That might offset what you pay for it!

If it is what you want, I hope it soon is yours!

Well, that was just mean, lynne! LOL. I open up a thread like "I found a dining room set!" and the next line is "forgot my camera." Phooey. LOL.

    Very well done!!

Alright missy -- you better take LOTS of photos during the installation of the new dining set!! And post them soon too! LOL!!

((picture me tapping my foot ....... patience of a lit firecracker hereabouts ........LOL!))

The movie company isn't going to ship it back to LA or where ever when shooting is over, so see if either you can lease it to them or if they'll sell it to you at a reduced rate when they're done.

Lynn you can send them from your cell phone to your computer as an email - just like you send a text. Then once you open the email, you can save the pics as you wish. And of course post them here. Get your daughter to help you with it - I'm SURE she knows how!!!

I just spent an hour (seriously!)with a really nice, very patient Verizon customer service guy who talked me through the entire process. So here's the table with both leaves in it. I took this at the consignment shop, BTW.

It looks great Lynn. I hope dh likes it. Which shop did you find it at? (Don't worry, I won't take it, I have a new set already). :)

WOW!!! You must have a very large dining room. The table has an appearance of being massive!

    Very pretty!

If the price is good, then, why are you hesitating? Or does your DH 'Have to' see stuff first? I like mine to come look too before I make a decision, but if he was heading out to play golf and couldn't make it, believe me, the set would be ours!

Ten feet long, great chairs, and a beautiful finish. I enlarged your photo so I could really look and I just love it.

Wow, it looks lovely and certainly the size that you would like. The only downside that I can see if what Les already mentioned about not having enough chairs to make use of the entire length of the table. It is were 6 side chairs you could always do different arm chairs, but with this one you'd need to mix and match your chairs if you entertained a larger group. Are you OK with that?

    Take it!!

And just Cry if they put up any fuss or bother .......

    LOL! :)

Also, don't forget about the thread last week where someone was having trouble with musty smelling leather, from her newly aquired antique chair. Your table could have some odor issues, too!

    We're buying it!!!

    Oh wow! Beautiful set. Congratulations!!!!

Congrats! Just beautiful, can't wait to see it in your house!

Many thanks again for your support and cheers. DS & I are heading down now to pay for it. My sweet husband "can't" or he'll be late for his golf game. He wants our son (almost 24) to crawl around under the table and look at all the supports, etc. ALso to turn all the chairs over to look for any possible problems, etc. The owner tells me that they can deliver it tomorrow. Keep you fingers crossed!

Make sure to post pictures once it's delivered.

    I'm so excited for you.

Antiques have so much personality to them. There is nothing quite like the thrill of discovery.

Well, we bought it! It should be delivered tomorrow. It's a different kind of table . . . very eclectic, as opposed to strictly Spanish Colonial. But, we were looking in this direction anyway. You all may be surprised at the carving on it. DH tells me they look like tobacco leaves. I'm not sure myself, but I like it.

Tish, I found the set at the big consignment furniture place over on Candelaria in the North Valley. I think the place is under new ownership, as the older woman is no longer there and the place is filled with really nice pieces now. You should check it out.

Oh, it's fab! Please take photos when you get settled in place! I want to see it in your beautiful home! :-)
