I have a large living room that has too much brown. Brown carpet, lighter brown walls, chocolate brown curtains, and brown granite fireplace. Up until recently we had red couches that brought some color into the room. Our new couches are now brown. So I've decided to replace the window treatments as a way to bring color in the room.

Curtains have never worked well this for room, because we like to open and close the drapes on two windows and leave the others closed (glare issues on the TV).

I am considering doing nice cloth vertical blinds in either green or red with a white wood cornice. Several people have said that this would make the room look too much like a hospital.

I don't want mini blinds or wood blinds. I love the new sheer verticals but they are out of my price range. I love soft curtains but they just don't seem to work right in this room.

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
