Coordinating with wicker bed

Hi All,

I just bought a queen sized wicker bed off CL for my guest bedroom. It's from IKEA and has a sleigh bed type style, with steel legs. I've never had wicker furniture before and need some help with coordinating other pieces of furniture for this room. The room is painted in Behr's Chinese Jade, with white trim, and I will be purchasing rattan blinds in a lighter colored wood. I need a nightstand (which I'll try to find off CL, Marshalls, etc), and we have my DH's grandfather's dresser to refinish (ugly olive green now). I also have a mirror from my bedroom dresser to hang on a wall, which is oak stained in a walnut color.

What will look good with the wicker? I haven't decided yet what stain to use on the dresser. I'm not drawn to painted furniture, but am wondering if white would look good. But I don't want to paint the mirror frame. Thanks for any advice!

What color is your wicker bed?

If it would work, I would be inclined to stain the dresser to match the mirror. You don't want to change the mirror, you say, and you will already have another wood tone in the blinds.

If the wicker is white or cream, you could use an antiquing glaze rubbed on with an old white sock, to give it a little richer feel and work well with the darker wood stain on the mirror and dresser.

For the nightstand, a cloth covered decorator table would work. That will depend on what you are planning for the bedding, tho.

Another choice for the nightstand would be to paint it in an accent color that you are using in the room, but you said you aren't a fan of painted furniture.

The wicker is a natural light brown/tan color- it's pretty neutral. I plan to go pretty basic with the bedding. I already have a down comforter with a simple white duvet cover (there is some striping in it), and I plan to just get some crisp white sheets and bedskirt.

I like the idea of the cloth covered decorator table as a nightstand, as I mainly need a place to put a lamp and maybe an alarm clock.

The mirror is optional- it actually goes with my chest of drawers in the master bedroom but we had to remove it because DH wanted to mount a TV above the chest instead :O There's literally nowhere else to use the mirror and I thought it may be nice in this guest bedroom. I'm just not sure if I want the dresser to also be that dark because I'd like a lighter, airier feel in that room. But I guess I could also strip the mirror frame too.

Since you are going neutral with most everything in the room, you could paint the dresser in a brighter color. For a new country look, I would choose red, green or blue. For a funkier look, you could use a bright turquoise or lime. You could use a high gloss finish or a softer finish with an antique stain over top. The color could be tied into the bed with a throw pillow or two. If you decide to do a skirted round table as a night table, you could also pick up the dresser color in the fabric.
