Finished a zigzag quilt- 'Morpho'

This is my first zigzag quilt, I made it to go on the foot of the bed where the cats sleep all day. It's only 40" x 48" so I'm making another one (similar but different) for the other side of the foot. Because there are butterflies in some of the fabric, it's named after the Blue Morpho butterfly. Also, I quilted it in long swoopy lines that remind me of butterfly wings.

Even while I was working on it, it was being used. Nosey Parker likes it fine.

If Nosey Parker likes it, it is a success. What a great picutre (love the quilt too).

I've never seen a zigzag quilt before. The colors are gorgeous, you varied the sizes of the designs in the fabrics so that none of them dilutes one's attention from the zigzag or form the butterfly fabric, and, yes, "cool" is the right word for the quilting. Interesting idea, and it looks great on your lovely quilt.

Nosey Parker is a beauty. Still rather young? I wouldn't have known what his name meant if I hadn't read a lot of books by British authors, but it's perfect for a cat. ("Curiosity killed the cat" would not be a saying if they didn't have a lot of it.) And don't cats know exactly what is soft and freshly-washed or--best of all--NEW! Sometimes, too, I could swear that they know what colors go best with their coats!

Your quilt is beautiful ~ love your quilting and the effects of the swoopy lines ~ softens the hard edges of the zig zag.
I really like your fabric combo. Cute pic of kitty.

Yesterday, I stumbled onto a tutorial of a zig zag & I still had the window open on my screen ~ I have linked it below.
Is the the way you made yours?

    Beautiful quilt.

Funny, I was just thinking of my Aunt Ione this morning. She used to crochet chevron design (zig-zag) afghans for all of us. She called it "Idiot's Delight" (because even an idiot could delight in it;and also because an Idiot couldn't tell which was right side up or down!). Nearly everyone in the family has one (babies, kids, adults ... all of us!).

    Must be serendipity!

    Lovely job!

Thanks so much, everyone! High praise coming from all you quilters! And Nosey Parker says thanks for admiring her, she's such a baby girl. She's about 4 months old now and growing way too fast for us, she's a riot when she's awake. And she's well named, if I may say so. She is into everything, even Raisin Bran. If she's fast enough and you're not watching, she'll stick her paw into the bowl and tip it over, before you've even gotten the milk on it. She's a monster. lol

I did this quilt in a quilt-along on Flickr. (My 3rd quilt and my 3rd quilt along.) A lady named Amy/parkcitygirl taught us how to do it. We used squares and sewed them into half-square triangle squares and pieced those together in rows. So, to answer the question, Magothyrivergirl, no- I didn't use the strip technique. I will probably have to try that at some point, though. It looks like it would be good for fabrics where you don't want to chop up the design as much as you do in triangles.

I didn't want to do the traditional "follow the zigzag lines" quilting,yeah- I'm such a rebel *snork* so I went with this swoopy idea. I saw it done on a doll quilt on Flickr and thought it would be fun to try.

Check out the link if you want to see some really nice zigzag quilts either half done or finished. And thank you again!

I love that quilt!, and it's now on my list, LOL.

Nosey Parker looks like my quilt kitty Gabriel. Unfortunately, no photos of him worth posting - I never think to photograph him when he's keeping my quilts anchored to the floor while I bind them.

I love you choice of fabrics, they work so well with the pattern. Your quilting is just right. Good decision.
Nosey Parker looks just like my last cat, Daphney. She lived to be 19 yo. and was a wonderful friend. I hope you have NP as long and have as much fun with her as we did. TFS Jayne

I love this quilt and the easy way of making it. Shannon and I once made a zig-zag the other way, what a PAIN! This way is so much easier!!!

I liked this type of quilt. My own cats each have their own quilt, and unlike you I gave them my 'not too nice' completed projects to sleep on.
