Jeld Wen window problem

I had read some earlier posts on this forum about Jeld Wen windows. Most seemed quite positive. My daughter and son in law are building a new home and chose Jeld Wen windows. The windows seemed fine at first but as they progressed through the building process and fall became winter, they noticed that several of the windows now have a gap between the window and the vinyl casing that holds the window in. The gap is wide enough to see light through and to feel heat escaping. The installer of these windows feels that once they keep the windows unlocked a while and stain and varnish the window frames that this problem will disappear??? Another contractor who didn't build their house says the windows are a problem and that this gap can't be fixed as the vinyl is of a rigid construction and that the windows just don't fit. Has anyone else had this problem and found a resolution? Thanks1

Jeld-Wen makes a lot of different kinds of windows from many different kinds of materials; which ones are you asking about?

The windows are from the Premium Collection and the windows are wood and vinyl casings. The windows are double hung.

Are they Premium Siteline EX (formerly Norco) or Premium Tradition Plus (formerly Caradco)? Their top of the line is called Custom (formerly Pozzi). I think Tradition Plus is the only one with a PVC compression jamb.

They are the Tradition Plus. Currently the lumber company/hardware that they bought them from is sending a rep out to check on them. If the rep feels it is the installer's fault, I don't know what recourse we have. If the rep feels it's the builder's fault, we may have to sue him. If the rep feels that it is Jeld Wen's problem then Jeld Wen will send a rep and again the decision will be made as to whose fault the window problem is. In the meantime it is -30 degrees here with the windchill and they are using a pig for gas and watching their heat go literally "out the windows".
