Direct Buy ~~ HELP!

I think we may have made a mistake. The one things that makes me suspicious is I told the guy we have 3 business days to renig, right? He said no you don't not in Washington State. You can only do that we vacuum salesman and that kind. We just put $500 down on our credit card and signed to finance the rest which after we get our home equity loan we'd pay off in full. We just did this Wednesday evening Jan 24, 2007 and 3 business days aren't up yet since this is Sat. Is this guy lieing? If so, I don't want any part of this place - even if they are legit at all, that would mean they hire liars at the least which is not for me.

I see I was in such a hurry to get help, I have some grammatical errors. I apologize ~ but someone please give me advice. Can I reverse my credit card charge?
We were pressured. Spokane is an hour and a half from home. They told us if we left w/o signing up and paying, we would never be asked back again. Gees. I feel so stupid.

Again, can I renig if I do it before the 3 business day limit or is WA state one that doesn't honor this law?

I *think* the law protects you, but in lieu of calling an attorney [you won't get hold of one till Monday], call your credit card company ASAP: they can give you a better answer than anyone on this board.

There was someone on the Kitchens forum who (I think) managed to get out, but the company is well set up to make sure that their contracts stay. The credit card might be ok, but the finance part of it is a separate contract, and you probably have no recourse to getting out of it.

There have been posts on the subject in Building a Home and other forums, too. Maybe someone on one of those forums has some good advice for you.

But I don't think you have much to hope for.

Well, another thing that is making this impossible is they want to put 4 rods in my back (i'm not that old) and there is just no way to pay for this now, let alone do the work.
So, there are two good reasons to get out.

Thanks for the replies so far!

The company won't let you out, no matter what's happening in your life. That's all the company sells, memberships.

If you look on your state government's websites, there should be something with the Attourney-general or similar, about cooling-off periods.

If you put $500 DOWN, just how expensive is this 'membership?'

The initial money you may be able to reverse, with a "chargeback" but I'd get some legal advice before you use that....you talk to the bank that issued the credit card to institute chargebacks.

I'm very sorry you are going through this.

The site below for the Washington Attorney General has some info on canceling contracts. The 3-day rule seems to apply to your case.

    Good luck!

The Federal law allowing 3 day cancellations only applies if the salesman is not in his normal place of business. Typically they have come to your home.
Your state may have additional protections.

Boy, I hope you can get out, but that link doesn't look promising. I joined them about 30 years ago and I know how hard sell they are. Back then it was only $900 to join and I never bought enough stuff to recoup that much. I know now it's thousands to join. There's a ton of information on line about the club, but it looks like it's up to the laws in your state.

Looks like somebody got out of it with the 3 day period.

My wife and I decided to pull out and did so within the 3 day grace period and our money WAS refunded. The day we went to cancel we signed the form but the salesman did not give us a copy.Figuring I needed that for proof I went back in the next day and the saleman present that day had a real hard time finding our cancelation form.He finally found it after I threatened to file a police report.I can't vouch for thier service. You also have to make arrangments for all pickups yourself and it seem returning takes a long time.I mean what if your fridge goes down? You need one right away correct? You don't have time to go into Direct Buy and thumb through catalogs and wait 6-8 weeks for delivery.Best of luck with your experience,I'm glad mine is behind me.
