September, 2014 Quilting/Sewing Goals

It's September and we get to make a new list, or continue on with any of the previous lists. :-) I'm ok with where I am as far as quilting.

First up, I want to finish the Growing Up Odd Quilt, get it delivered and also quilt the Crumbs of Color and get that delivered. Other than those two, I think I'll kit up a few Bear Paw Blocks, work on those and straighten up the sewing area. Oh, and make some potholders with the hot air balloon fabric I bought awhile back. Think I'll just cut about 8" the WOF, quilt it with a backing and innerds, cut the squares and bind. In my mind, it sounds like it will be a quick thing to do. I'll let you know. :-)

What's on your plate for this month?

I actually do have some goals for this month. LOL

Quilt a few random tops that I purchased at estate sales
Cut plenty of stuff for retreat
Maybe even bind a few quilts.

Yesterday I started a quilt kit for a friend whose husband passed away last weekend. It's PP kaleidoscope & kaleidoscope variation - 20 blocks total. I have 6 done so far. This is my priority project this month.

I need to bind my BD block quilt.

The group baby quilt top is supposedly finally in the mail, so I need to quilt and bind it and get it shipped to the recipient.

If I finish those I will load the Christmas mosaic on the frame.

Also keep working on my hand applique.

    1. September lotto block - done.
    2. Finish FMQ my Baby Honu quilt.
    3. Design with my sis and then stitch together the 272 blocks I've made for my nephew's quilt.
    4. Finish repairing my neighbors's dog-eaten quilt. I have the top finished, but I'm struggling with the back. Sounds stupid, doesn't it? But the front was pieced and the back had only one seam, which makes inserting a couple of patches tricky. I'm trying to curve seam them, but working on it is hard because you have the whole quilt dragging you down. This is not something I ever want to do again.
    5. FMQ my Asian quilt.

I'd better stop there. I'll be really lucky if I get all that finished.

    My September goals:
    1. Finish hand-piecing last 2 butterfly blocks for baby quilt

    1) Would love to try the special lotto leaf block, but not sure I have the skills
    2) Finish fan quilt. Just finished piecing top. Want to have it hung by next Saturday night for company.
    3) Keep working on DD's depression block Lotto quilt. I needed to make quite a few blocks to make a queen. I think I'm down to 12 more.

New goals, put together the birthday blocks, sandwich and quilt.
Make something for the "make, bake or grow" auction, maybe a chicken pin cushion and a table runner.

Make three more swoon blocks, so I can assemble the top at retreat
Cut fabric / pattern for two quilt tops assembly at retreat
Pull fabric together for PP lotto block and take to retreat
Make a list of fabric to possibly purchase at Mary Jo's ...so excited, get to go to Mary Jo's !!!
Deliver the niece quilt to NY... Guess delivery counts as a goal :-)
I'll be thrilled if I get this much accomplished.

Wow! Can you believe it is already the 20th of the month?! I have the latest scrappy ready for binding and I really like how the quilting looks from the back....can't see it so much from the front. Will get a picture after it's completed. Have not done anything more with the Bears Paw but think I'll do Flying Geese for the border when I get to that part. Doesn't look like I even listed the Split 9-Patch that's on the design wall with a few of the blocks sewn together.

Bev2009, How'd your company like your wallhanging? Do we get to see a picture of it hanging on your wall?

Good luck to everyone.....whether getting ready for retreat, going to Hawaii or just relaxing around your house getting ready for the leaves to change. Although, I think that's already happening in some parts of our world.

Please keep Katie in prayer. She has a few new spots as she hasn't been able to do any treatments because her blood was low so they gave her a transfusion a couple days ago. While she was waiting at the hospital, she passed out. Luckily, her husband was close enough to catch her as she went down. It's a real sad situation.

Sharon I said a prayer for Katie.

    For September goals:

    1. I finished hand sewing all the baby quilt blocks
    2. Still need to hand sew the blocks together for baby quilt top
    3. I still want to hand piece some granny square quilt blocks this month.
    4. I still need to buy batting for the baby quilt .... once I do that I think that will help motivate me to finish the baby quilt.
    5. Also working on knitting a scarf
    6. Completed the cross-stitch bookmark for a friend's upcoming birthday.
    7. I need to start crocheting some ribbon bookmarks for my son's school teachers and principals for their Christmas gifts..... so hopefully will start on this this month.

I have lots of stuff that will continue on into October. Just a slow quilt month for me with school now under way and last weekend birthday parties for my son and a nephew. September has just been a busy month family-wise. Glad though that this coming week it is suppose to cool off to the 80's during the day and the 60's at night ..... finally getting some fall temps here.

    Best to you and yours,
    Sandra

Quilt for my friend - done
    BD block quilt - done
group baby quilt - just needs binding hand sewn; will finish this weekend

I've picked up another project I'm doing today - 2 valances for the same friend who received the quilt. She just wants basic valances so they won't take long.

The Christmas mosaic quilt will have to wait. I drew BIL for Christmas and I think I'll make him a Hunter Star lap quilt. I need to figure fabric requirements before I go to the quilt show next weekend. :)
