Advice on granite countertop color??

I'm looking for advice on granite color for my kitchen. We're in the process of renovating and just put the new flooring in yesterday (color Tuscan stone bronze), the cupboards will be installed this coming weekend made of maple in a dark cherry finish. My dilemma is that I look at granite and come up with like 25 different ones that I like. How do I get the perfect color to match my decor? I need some help, maybe a few suggestions as to which color would suit my decor. I wish I could post pictures. I have a little experience with decorating and have no problem going into a room and picking a paint color to go with the dÃ©cor but when it comes to countertops I feel totally lost! I've looked at so many granite colors on the internet that I feel totally lost! At first I thought of going with Santa Cecilia and then my husband wanted the darker color Tan Brown. The kitchen is not very big 13x11 but not the smallest either and we have lots of windows (4) in the kitchen and it's nice and bright but I was still afraid to go too dark in case it would make the place look dark. I'd like to be able to narrow it down to a few colors as soon as possible because the longer I wait to decide the longer I will be without countertops! If anyone has some suggestions I'm willing to listen!

My dinning room is decorated in warm browns with an Italian theme with special paint effect painted on that looks like plaster breaking away from the brick revealing pieces of brick here and there, the main floor washroom is done in gold tones with venetian plaster. I really like the old world look with a Tuscany style. It would be nice to pick a color that would tie everything in. I want something that will go wow! The paint color for the kitchen has not been decided yet so I'm a little flexible with colors.

I found this site in an earlier posting. www.finishedkitchens.com It shows hundreds of kitchen remodels. I chose something entirely different when I went to the showroom. Aztec Canyon has cream,gold, and rust tones. It is an exotic granite. It sounds like that would compliment your decor. There are great choices out there. Check out the kitchen forum. I personally think that the best looking kitchens have granite that contrasts with the cabinets. Since you are going with a darker finish cabinet, I would pick a lighter granite color, such as the Santa Cecilia that you are drawn to. I have a very similiar granite (Kashmir Gold) and it is a dream - it hides everything. I've lived with darker (black) granite before, and it showed every streak.

Since you like the 'old world' look, I would say go for a lighter counter with warm golds in it.

I think you need to stone shop slab-by-slab: take a sample of your floors and cabs with you to the stone yards, look at the actual product you'll be buying.

It does NO good to have a list of possible names in hand because the slabs under that name will be completely different from one yard to the next. IE: dakota mahogany is a favorite of mine, a dark red/brown with tiny blue sparkles-- except that a lot of the newer slabs are pale, a coffee with lots of cream color, bears no resemblence to the dakota we were seeing a year ago.

yes, take your samples and go see the slabs in real. each slab is different! my sister has something with gold, black, yellow and it's more in a wave than spots. it could be aztec canyon, desert gold, kashmir gold - i haven't asked but they all have a similar look - online! but she went thru several slabs called the same thing to find the ONE she wanted.

i do think it depends on your flooring, cabinets - and the look you're going for!
