Reviews, please, on Elna repairs in Phoenix AZ

I know there are a number of quilters from Phoenix, AZ on this forum, so I am sending my plea to you.

I have had my wonderful Elna SU air-electronic sewing machine since 1976. It has always worked like a champ. The last time I had it in a shop, 3 years ago for a cleaning and check up, the service man said it was in excellent shape and just cleaned a little dust and lint out. That man has since retired and left the state.

Last December while I was making pillowcases something went "sproing" and the machine stopped cold. I have not been able to bring myself to relinquish my baby to any stranger for the necessary repair because I've read so many horror stories about modifications some repairmen will do to make it work, but really, I miss my Elna and need to get it fixed.

I have finally settled on taking it to 35th Avenue Sew and Vac in Phoenix--I think. I have bought fabric and quilting supplies from them off and on for years. Friends have recommended them. They will not let me make an appointment so I can be there when the repairs are done, but I must leave it to be worked on in the order it is received.

Can you tell how traumatized I am about this? Can you give me a glowing recommendation or (aaargh) a warning? I really need reassurance or someone to save me from making a mistake. HELP will be appreciated.

Valerie
