It Has Happened!

There is currently a post about Changing Style Horses Mid-Stream. I didn't post becuase I couldn't honestly say that I changed style mid-stream. Did a lot of experimenting (most of it failed) before finally finding my groove many yrs. later.

Now I've got my style groove but I kept wondering if it would ever come together and if so when would I have my 'Ah-Ha' moment when I knew that it was coming together?

Well guys - I just had it! I've been preparing for a Father's Day dinner and cleaning house which in my case usually just means moving piles of furniture from one room to closer to where they're suppossed to go in the end.

This afternoon I moved my bedside tables out of the DR. I decided not to carry them upstairs by myself so I parked 1 in the entry hall at the bottom of our stairs underneath the last of 3 pictures that I'm also moving upstairs. Then while I dusted off an end table I moved my freshly cut arrangement of Hydrangea onto that bedside table in the hallway underneath the 1/3 art arrangement that's left on that wall. I turned around to look as I walked away and I said 'THAT'S IT! That's the feel I've been hoping to achieve someday.' Simple, modern country, rustic, somewhat sparse, neutral color and w/ a shot of shiny girlie something.

I know that the pic is too high but remember everything was randomly just shoved there and left hanging on the wall and forgotten about. And yet it's exactly what I dreamed of for the past 2 yrs! Now I know that it doesn't look like much but this is B.I.G BIG for me and I'm so excited. I CAN do this afterall!

I am finally in a spot where almost everything that I own and have so carefully purchased (or more to the point NOT purchased) over the past 2 years has left me in the position of everything working together regardless of how I combine them!

It is simply beautiful!

I am in that spot as well that I can move items from room to room and they work no matter what I combine together, but it has taken me a lot more than 2 years to accomplish that, so good for you for reaching that place so quickly.

BTW, I am a hydrangea fanatic. We have at least 50 different hydrangeas on our property but non are the beautiful color that you have. I know you add aluminum sulfate to the soil, is that what you do?

Ahhh Roseabbey! Overall it has been an 11yr. process! it took 9 of them to get a grip LOL!

Yes I added A.S. to those hydrangea in th epic (from my side bed) but haven't added any for about 2yrs. The pine needles from a huge tree in back used to make my back yard hydrangea (all Nikko Blue) bloom a pretty blue. Since the tree came down though some of them are totally pink even after having had added A.S. so I stopped trying. Some of them are pink some bushes blue and others a pretty purple.

Congratulations on your breakthrough! I've always thought that my many, many moves were the best learning tool I could have related to decorating because I had to make my furnishings work in so many different spaces.

Congratulations on your ah-ha moment!! Your arrangement looks great.

My hydrangeas are the same color as yours. It's a crazy bush...on one bush, I have dark purple, blue, pink and white! What a bouquet I made today!

I really like that. It's simple yet elegant. Just enough bling to appeal to me, but not over-the-top. Like a nice breath of fresh air. Congrats on your ah-ha moment.

Very pretty!

I could also see a pretty white linen dresser scarf under that bouquet. Some antique piece, rather simple and delicate, but not too lacy or fussy.

Les - I really like the idea of an antique linen. I actually have an antique white pillow case that has crocheted lace at the end. I used to use it as a runner but I forgt about it over the yrs. so now I will have to dig it out!

My big challenge now though is to find just the right hall table for this space. I think I'm going to have to get DH or dad to build something for me. It can't be too deep since it's a hall, around the same finish as my nightstand an preferably w/ a shelf underneath to hold a basket.

Lovely! I think the impact is strengthened by the pleasing relationship/similarity between the shapes of the hydrangeas and vase, and of each of the trees in the photograph above.

I don't get it...why did you have bedside tables in the dining room in the first place? Did you just move?? Looks lovely!!

elenkao - the LR side tables that I had in my LR weren't quite cutting it and I was pretty sure that I wanted something w/ the same type of feeling/ finish as my bedside tables so I swapped rooms. When I decided that's the look that I wanted I started keeping my eyes open for just the right 2 tables at antique/ junk shops. When I finally ended up w/ 2 I just shoved my bedside tables into the DR until I got around to moving them back upstairs.

I wish my accumulations of cast off furniture that randomnly land in my DR all ended up there sort of w/ reason and purpose but honestly I just shove stuff around and create piles wherever they may lie while I ponder things for a lifetime.

For a permanent table in that hallway I picture something in a style similar to a saddle seat stool but w/o the dip. I'm going to dad's in July and I'm sending him some pictures so that we can hopefully come up w/ a design and build one in his shop.

But before that I'm going to move an old weathered bench into that spot and see if I like that.

Who knows? There should be a game called pin the furniture to a room in my house!
