Hello all - I am reinstalling our over-the-range microwave with the through-the-wall vent option installed (was just recirculating). And of course, there is a stud dead center where I need to cut my 4x11 opening. The wall behind the microwave is an outside wall. What's the best way to deal with this? Cut back the drywall and frame in the opening? I would like to maintain the stud integrity as it is also supporting the upper cabinet, that in turn supports some of the weight of the microwave.

What have others done in this situation?
