nightstands?

I have this bed....

I like these two nightstands but I wonder if they are way off base...what do you think?

I tend to like to mix things up but wondering if I am going too far? Are they way too different from each other and the bed? If it is too much together, would either one of them work? Thoughts?

Much thanks :)

I can envision #1 so long as the rest of the stuff is in the 'mix things up' vein. #2 would seem mis-matched, probably because it is the same basic color. I have a similar sleigh bed and my nightstands are a bit too matchy-matchy (although purchased 10 years later and a different brand). I wonder if a smaller 'mix things up' style would work - for example, if you don't need drawers could you find something with maybe one drawer and a lower shelf so there is less surface of the alternate material, such as the mirror?

Also, I would not get 2 the same (mine are and I regret it).

And lastly, since it is your bedroom, you should feel great when you see it altogether so there is something to say for getting what you love!

I am very traditional and like things to match so I would automatically lean toward the darker one (#2) and I would want both the same. I worry about things being to matchy too, but I just can't seem to buy contrasting pieces!

If I understand correctly you want to use both of those nightstands with that bed. Yes?

I do not think it will work. The legs are too different. The hardware is too different from each other. The finish on either piece clashes with the bed. There does not seem to be any one feature on any of the pieces that unite them.

The white one looks rather casual and the darker one too formal by comparison.

But....then again it may work in the right setting. What does the room look like? What other furnishings are going to go with it? Wallpaper? Giant satin pillows? What is your vision???

The thing about creative design is often the surprise element that is achieved by mixing wildly different pieces provided there is still some cohesiveness and order to it. For instance, if you take a couple of Betsy Johnson's pieces from one of her rooms and set them in a row, they would not look like they could work together. But using them and bringing in other elements there can be harmony and balance.

I would wait to see how tall the bed is with the mattresses on there to make sure the tables are tall enough. I might like the mirrored one best. You could do two matching or have a round dark stained table on the other side. Check your bed height first though.

I like your creative vision. I would do two of the same type, not mixed, but either one in a set would work. The second wood would give a more traditional "matched" feel while still appearing unique and not actually a purchased set. The mirrored set would obviously give you a creative twist; you would want to use mirrors elsewhere, such as a set of 4-6 different framed and shaped mirrors hung together. The mirrored set takes you toward deco glam, or French Versailles elegance, while the wood takes you to a contemporary or Asian influence (strictly IMHO). Can't go wrong either way......

Thanks for the responses! The only items besides the bed and nightstands are a dressser and we will be getting a chair at some point. I really like the mirrored for my side and my husband really needs some storage for his nightstand. So.....what to do, what to do :)

Imsmiling, can you get a picture of your bed head on so a virtual could be made with these two night stands on either side? I love eclectic design and I wouldn't say this couldn't work until I "saw" it in the room. Virtually at the very least. It's in a room shared by a man and woman. To me there's no reason one can't have a feminine and masculine feel in one room. In fact in a master bedroom I think that's important. I'll do a virtual for you if you can get a straight on photo of your bed in your room. Never say never. If YOU like it, it's all good.

Thanks for inputting the tables in the room. These pictures were taken when I first got the furniture. Please disregard the mess.

    Again, thanks!

Do you have a photo of your bed that was taken from the center of the foot of the bed? Since the nightstand photos are dead on it won't work with the photos you've shown. I don't have a program that can change the angle on the nightstands.
If you can get one like this below example that would really help.

PS, now that I see your chest of drawers I'm thinking you made a really good decision on your hubbys night stand. I'd say go for it. It will go well with that piece.

    Is this better?

I like the mirrored one. It's a fun look for an eclectic mix-it-up type look. I think the wood one fights with the furniture you already have in a not mix-it-up kind of way. The color is close, but misses and the woodgrain is vertical striping whereas the woodgrain of the dresser opposite the bed is horizontal.

I'd like to see either two of the mirrored ones or the mirrored one on your side and maybe a curved wood one on the other side.

Here you go.... I think they'll work because of your dresser like I mentioned before. My only concern would be the wood tones in real life. If you can find out if the night stand on your hubbys side of the bed will match the other woods, then I'd say go for it. The wood grain mimics the dresser only in opposite direction.

I wish I could have changed the color of the nightstand to match. This way you have to imagine it matching.

Thanks for giving me this visual!!! I think it just may work if the wood matches and I use the same lamp. Thanks again!

You are very welcome. I glad to have helped you.

I would put a crystal lamp on the mirrored chest.

Is the mirrored one from Z Gallery? It looks identical. Just FYI - I am thinking of buying it because the price is right and it looks nice. I am planning to change the knobs as they don't look right to me in person and it is not made particularly well. THe drawers are not on glides and are pretty difficult to open and close- as are the doors. I don't think I will use the drawer and doors enough to care - in fact I may get one for my dh's side and get the pretty matching round table for mine. There is also a lot of gold in the detail paint.

Just to weigh in - I agree that if the wood tone is as different as it appears to be it doesn't look like it works. Another consideration is that the close matching dresser and one nightstand may make the one that is different stand out in a way that may not be pleasing.
