How much for this sofa?

I am posting this for someone that has this sofa and is considering selling it on either CL or ebay. I nor the owner has ever sold anything on either website. How much do you think it should sell for? I know the photo isnt great in that the pillows need to be arranged better. The sofa is 25 years old but has very little wear. It looks almost new. Should the sofa and pitcure above it be sold seperately or as a set? What do you think the asking price should be? Im not sure that it matters, but the maker of the sofa is Dansen Contemporary Furniture...I've never heard of them.

TIA!

It really falls into the category of "used" furniture, and I would be surprised if you could get $100 on CL. You might do better with a local pickup only on eBay, because of a wider audience.

I would list the painting separately.

I too would list the painting separately, but mention in the ad you also have a sofa that matches it beautifully.
When posting used furniture on CL I have a formula I use depending a combination of things. Style, color, condition and age. Normally for something 25 years old I'd list it as 25 percent of it's original price. 33% if it's in excellent condition and is a classic style and color.
This sofa, though little wear, shows it's age in style and color so if the own really wants it gone fast then she'll have to expect very little for it. If she has room to store it while waiting for the right person to see it then she can price it accordingly.
I highly recommend taking great pictures and post them using HTML with close ups of the fabrics and any damage/wear there might be. I never put "or best offer" when first listing something unless I'm really wanting something gone soon.
If the fabric is protected against spills make sure to list that. If you know what type of construction it has, list that. Any an all info you can give a potential buyer the better.
Good luck! You can private message me by clicking on my nickname. I'd be glad to help more if I can.

Thanks for the info! For $100 I personally dont think its worth listing. They may think otherwise. I dont know the original price but none the lwss it IS 25yo. If it were mine I would donate it. The color/style is dated an I dont care for sectionals. Thanks for the input. JustGBM- I will see if they need help with the listing. Thats very kind of you. Thanks.

I would check out a used furniture store or try to consign it. I sold my couch on consignment for 1200 and got it good luck

Depending on where you live, you might be able to interest younger people who crave that retro flair. It's a period piece!

You're very welcome ElecticMe. Around here sectionals are big. We recently sold ours for $250.00. It was 21 years old and cost us only $499.00. It was on sale at the time, but I still feel like we did good. Granted it was a sleeper and still in very good shape, structurally sound as a rock, but there were signs of wear on the fabric.
Here's the photos I used to give you an idea of how I do my Cragslist Ads.

There are probably many who would want this sofa since it is versatile in that it can be rearranged in a room and has the end backless piece. I'd look in CL of that area and see what other sofas are listed for and list for that or if there is a consignment store ask if they will take it; since's it's large it would have to be a store with lots of floor space.

I should have included that its a very location driven thing. The frame of the sofa is pretty timeless and a client of mine recently got a new sofa with this essential shape (minus the 80s back pillow cushions).

However, I live near a major medical school/health sciences university and students regularly move in with their parents old, high-quality (Henredon etc.) sofas and at the end of their 2-4 years, they often end up on the side walk or donated to the local thrift store. So perhaps with the glut of sofas around me, I lowballed my estimate. Good luck:)

I would donate it to Good Will and take a nice tax deduction.

I'm with nanabella on this one. But then...we itemize every year.

Thanks for all the input. The sofa actually belongs to a retired man that is uninterested in a tax deduction. He thinks that he is going to take the advise of jennybog and others who suggested trying to sell it at a consignment store. I suggested putting it on ebay for a week and see how it goes. Though, as I said before, I've never actually sold anythig on ebay. Anyway he has a house full of new furniture coming in the next couple of days and will have to figure something out before then. After reading ttodds post about the ikea slipcover sofa, I wonder if a slipcover ... and new legs... would actually impove the looks of this sofa. I guess thats a mute point since new furniture is coming anyway. Thanks for all the suggestions!
