Good Friday Morning !!!

It is finally raining here, only 10 hours later than predicted. And it's warm! I wonder if we'll get thunderstorms???

olldbob, after reading about "A"'s problem on the other post, perhaps she should change her username so she isn't "stalked," don't you think??

I was thinking it might be safer for you to change names again, too. I thought OLLDdiva would be good for you, but if you want people to recognize you, then probably not.
    Got it! OLLDhouse
olldbob, oops. I realize my previous post could be interpreted two ways. I only meant recognize as in the spelling, not the meaning.
eztia, Yes, I feel bad for her knowing first hand what it's like. I wonder if we should invite her in? She's pretty cool.
No problem eztia! Most people know I'm bobbi anyway. Emily's gonna kill me !!!
I am missing the A problem. I went on the link and she has my name as I had responded to Frank Bright's "studio". Is Aja upset with me? I thought the studio post looked like fun, so I joined in?????
creeser - but too young to care !!! hehehehe
  • 13 years ago

Loving the names :) I thought I read you can only change your name 2x a year.
Agreed, Aja should change her name and her photo so she's not so recognizable. I've had a few nasty remarks made to me and when I shot back they edited or deleted there comment.
    Wasn't janishill part of OLLD?
There's a guy from Romania who's made more than one nasty comment, today he called a poster's fireplace ugly. I called him on it and he apologized. That's the thing about living in California, we're constantly being told we have to 'allow for the culture difference'. I DEFINITELY allow for the culture difference, who more than me? But that doesn't give people free reign to make narsty comments.
Olldbob, after some pondering of eztia's post I derived olldflame.
    Is someone stalking Aja?
    She doesn't like me I don't think....
judyg, it wasn't you that was the problem in that other place. You are too professional for that. Let it go.
You are nice, even when you tease "B."

    olldbob, do you like "olldflame?"
mpoulsom, chin up, it wasn't you either. Let it go. Now, to change the subject entirely, but keep it on design, what color are your holiday dishes and what color tablecloth do you use?

Same question to all other OLLD! :)
mp, I don't think you've ever given anyone a reason to dislike you. If you have, they probably deserved a tongue lashing anyway. We like you, your stuck with us :)
Well, Emily didn't kill me! I changed it to olldbobbi, most people know me as bobbi anyway.

Holiday dishes? I only have one set of dishes and they're white/blue, so I guess I'll have a blue, blue Christmas. hehehe No tablecloth. We're staying in this holiday, alone (yay!) so nothing fancy here.

eztia, what color are your dishes, and what are your plans?
Mendi, Aja's having issues with janishill and also with a persian rug she had in Mayflower storage that got soaked and ruined. Not her best time, I think.
I have white china with a silver edge, silver charger plates. I use a white tablecloth (only so I can bleach it) and silver grey/white napkins. Mosiac mirrored candle thingeys. Huge clear vase, fresh cranberries floating on the water and white lilies about 4 bunches.
Bobeeee? Comment on Aja's issue? Not getting a good feeling about this. Why are we involved with her problem with janishill?
Yes, Olldcan! We do stick together. That is what I like about OLLD - we encourage each other through red ochre, ugly trunks, demolished bathrooms, no window coverings, paint that looks different on different walls, and workmen who start hammering and also turn the water off early in the morning.
We learn from each other about about "old white boomers" and "farolitos."
We even support and encourage each other through very bad coughs, and tooth extractions.
Here is to us, a group of nice females who like design and decorating, and offer our suggestions when we have something positive to say both here and on design dilemmas.
Here, here eztia! Don't be pickin' on my red ochre, ok? hehehe

olldcan! You go all out! I will def need to see pics of all this, please?
I think collections of any sort are personal, and they mean something to the collector, so losing even one piece that you thought was safely tucked away can be heartbreaking.
Good very late morning - finally Saturday, no builders and a sleep in. Actually at 7.30am my eyes just wouldn't open and I was happy not to fight it.

Made the mistake of walking outside in bare feet - yikes it felt like I was walking through a sandpit. Builders did a good job of cleaning up where they were working, just didn't take into account all the other places they clomped and they were cementing yesterday.

Boy you lot have been busy!!! Opened my email and the entire page was OLLDs. Going to take me ages to wade through all this. Disappointed I missed out on the name change suggestions - olldcanon came to mind - always firing - teehee.

Have to check out on the Aja -v-janishill fight, got into a run in with her the other day. Actually after that I noticed she did back off a lot and Cara deleted all her comments. Was jh an OLLD?? Can't imagine her fitting in.
Olldcan, similar table setting at my house with ivory china with platinum trim and a linen like tablecloth with an ever so slight metallic running through it. I made a centerpiece this year using an antique dough bowl, blown glass deer and faux greens that I also sprinkled with faux snow. Saw a great idea for a pretty holiday drink...white cranberry juice, vodka and pomegranate seeds for garnish.
I don't remember jh being an olld. We had a judym for a while, maybe we bored her? Aja is really a sweet person, but she seems to have a short fuse occassionally.

Olldcanon, always firing??? You crack me up !
MM, I'm coming to your house for Christmas! Wow, you all go way out!
Mornin roo! Roo don't feel bad, I miss all of your and bob's chatty cathy time in the middle of the night! I feel the same way when i wake up in the morning.

and my bad...about glass fireplace things...bob, i replied to creesy. that was for you my dear!
I took pics of fireplace completion. forgot about another camera i had. BUT, I still haven't gotten them on the puter yet.
mp - yes our chatty cathy time is in the middle of the night in both places, I'm up too late and b is up too early, but it is a nice down time before I go to bed.

The roo story is totally 100% true, bob, pity it wasn't in the days of digital cameras. The damn thing totally filled the bed. They are very strong animals and when provoked actually 'sit' on their tails and lash out with their hind legs, which are also super powerful. One kick from them would have me in LA in record time and with every bone in my body broken. The three who ran along the beach with me each morning, were smaller ones about 4-5 feet tall they just appeared from nowhere and at the end of my run they just disappeared back into the bush and never saw them any other time. We also had the cutest little wallaby (that's like a small roo), he was only about 3ft tall and he joined us around the campfire each night and enjoyed a cup of tea (in a saucer) and stayed for lots of petting.
roo, they don't scare you? I would be scared to death !
creeser, love your deer story. They are all Bambi's to me - how could anyone kill them!!!! I would end up with a whole barnyard of pets. Do people actually eat them? Is that what they call venison meat? I've heard that is an acquired taste but not being much of a meat eater I'm not partial to trying anything.
Roo meat is the latest craze here, we do have to cull them they are absolutely overrunning many areas of the country, but the meat is supposed to be really low fat and good for you. They promote it a lot on shows like Biggest Loser.
roo, yes, dear meat is venizon. Gross. Ooops, sorry creeser, that was aimed at you.
I don't eat venison (deer) and I would never eat kangaroo.....or have I? Deer Jerky is supposed to be pretty good though. I'm just not into very gamey meat. I LOVE FISH! I will eat anything from the ocean! on that note ladies, I am leaving to go home! Have a great weekend if I don't talk to you.
I will try and download finished Jenga fireplace and garden/shack aka gingerbread house! :) Just remember the gingerbread house is tacky! hahaha! Not as tacky as the vietnamese restaurant, but close!
And do I have some pics of our favorite "all you can stand chinese buffet" place here! It is the ultimate in awesome tackiness. I love going there just to see what else they've added! :) There are always MORE plastic flowers outside stuck into the ground!!!! And no I am not kidding!
judy - dare we ask you to elaborate on the naked drunk???? As olldbobbi would say .......... ewwwwww

michi - love your Santa, he looks like he is pondering over something. I don't get the 'woodland' bit.

Must be a lot of rain about, it has rained here all night and still going on and off. BH is straining at the leash again wanting to paint but it is too overcast. He has just gone to the shop and the sun is trying to come out. Supposed to be going to 41 today but touch wood if the rain stays around I can't see that happening, but of course the rain is only making the humidity worse.

Just had to give Aja some support as she supported me.

Soooooooooooooo wanted to give MIG a big ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
bob, well like all animals the bigger they are the more care you take but roos are pretty tame, especially those that live around populated areas. They seem to quite like people.

I have heard venison is very gamey which is why I won't try it. Heck these days I can't even eat lamb - our supposedly national dish - used to love it once but as I have aged I just can't eat it. It is a pretty fatty meat I guess so maybe the fattiness isn't agreeing with old age, that that that is a bad thing.

Roo meat is very dark which turns me off trying it, I am very much a fish or chicken person although I will eat beef in stews and casseroles, just not a slab of it.
ok..tryin to show you fireplace finished, but these are not my pro pics! lol
and my elf and the gingerbread guy and gal. I love them!
    slow downloading....aarrgghhh

elf and my grandmother's block print that she made when she was a senior in HS in art class, which I cherish! 1933

Hi all. Regarding venison. All deer, elk, antelope, moose, and so on are "venison." We were always happy when my father, who was a good hunter with a bow and arrow, and also with a gun, would get an animal during hunting season. That would be our meat for the whole winter. Lots of ground venison hamburgers at that time because we children were pretty young. My very favorite is antelope after a WET summer. The good grass makes the meat much less "gamey." Elk meat is absolutely delicious. My friend was just given a deer neck and an elk neck as a gift from one of her students "the better to make mincemeat." She made 14 quarts of elk mincemeat. The cooked deer neck is in the freezer for winter. She is going to give me a pint of elk mincemeat! I am looking forward to it!

    Pardon me?

Cannina, I am going to speak for all of the members of OLLD for a moment. I am so sorry you read today's post and saw our angst. I was also uncomfortable with some things posted today.

Today the OLLD group seemed to struggle to work out a problem with a poster we thought might be being stalked, nasty comments made to some of us by the poor woman we thought might be being stalked and why, and sorting out people who post pranks (two that I know of right now). This group had a bad experience a couple of months ago when there was a breach of security. We all changed our names at that time.
We have tried to make an effort NOT to talk about other design dilemmas and other posts on our thread. Today was the exception and not the rule. Please come back the day after tomorrow (we have international members who need time to read this).
I am very sure OLLD will be much more careful about staying on the topic of design and people in our own group, and not talking about people who are not members.
Thank you for reminding us and bringing this lapse to our attention.
    Sincerely, E.
    @caninna, Really?
New poster, first comment no pictures, no idea-books or activity? Your comments on this thread of OLLD friends is not welcome. What's "quite disturbing" is, that you think that what you have read, mocks another poster.... are you delusional????? and you think someone is getting ganged up on... well, pity for you, I guess you must recognize bad behaviour.
Girls, I have to tell you that I was confused by Aja's comment which included me, for some reason, in her issue with janishill. This is my response to Aja.

    https://www.houzz.com/discussions/does-anyone-know-what-kind-of-window-treatment-this-is-called-dsvw-vd~256785

I don't know what is going on with some of these houzzers, nor do I want to, but I resent being pulled into an argument and specifically named as being part of Aja's problem with janis. I am here to have fun, to share and to learn. That's all.

mp, love the gingerbread couple, the frisky elf, well maybe he drank too much punch LOL. The JENGA is looking great. The addition of the concrete slab and changing the metal trim colour, was genius. I think I have ate a meal or two in the "all you can stand buffet" so funny, you make me laugh all the time :)

michi, are we shopping at the same stores? I'm so gonna try that holiday drink, it will look and taste so good, so cheers to that. Maybe I wont have to bleach the tablecloth this year!!

E, don't waste your time on the fictitious poster caninna. Instead of targeting A, there coming here looking to stir s**t and we all have better things to do, than entertain that.

roo did you go back to bed, I need another carole
  • 13 years ago
judyg, I didn't understand A's comment at all. Been thinking that perhaps there was a bit of language and culture differences and perhaps, just maybe a short fuse so to speak. I never chimed in on that discussion. I think if people are going to name names and call someone out, they better have your facts straight. I can't make any sense as to why that happened to you.
Ouch, it's getting worse. K, maybe meds are in order.
Cannina as a new poster you would not be aware that we have been contributing to Houzz and assisting readers for a long time now, which is how we got to know each other, we are most certainly not a nasty clique as you suggest. Unfortunately due to our high profile we are subject to nasty comments and taunts and it sometimes happens we need somewhere to vent and reassure each other. Please feel free to join us at any time and get to know who we really are, we have nothing to hide.
judy, I didn't think Aja was aiming at you at all. She was just firing off examples of what she considered bad taste comments by one particular person but the quotes just happened to mention your name. She sort of writes in shorthand so it is hard to keep up with her.

I think I am the only one allowed to be hot and bothered here, supposedly hit 33 today, not the predicted 41, but that was bad enough. Humidity was 87%!!!! Drip City. Went shopping for a fan and 2 light fittings - anyone would think it was rocket science. Came home empty handed, but too hot to be bothered .................... what is that famous line - I'll think about it tomorrow??? Couple of things I did like take 10 days to order!!!!

Opinions please - I want to put a fancy pendant light in the corner of my lounge room, just to have a light I can switch on and off at the door and to jazz up the corner. I don't want to pay mega bucks for anything really trendy or have anything with dozens of globes to chew up power so thought either of these would be a cute fill in until I find just the right one.

Apparently there is some assembly required - hope I don't need a pilot's licence.

olldcan - that was a bit of a one-off. Periodically a singer will write a Christmas song, as Rolf Harris did with Boomers, but they don't always take off. In true Aussie style though we are more likely to send up traditional songs like this

To translate the "rusty Holden Ute" - Holden is an iconic brand of car here and a 'ute' is what you guys call a pickup truck.
