They are two different cabinet manufactures. The link that beautybutdebtfree provided is to a website that sells various cabinets, but their website has a lot of problems with their web pages with inaccurate information listed.

One of the KD on here will probably chime in and tell you that they are two different cabinet lines and that Wolf is a step or two below Norcraft.

kiwi71: what does your paperwork says with regards to brand purchased. There are so many cabinet manufacturers out there that sell cabinets that look alike.

OK, here's what I'd do:
I would call Norcraft directly and ask whether they have any connection with Wolf, and if yes, what that means in terms of your cabinets. Specifically difference in quality and pricing.

Thanks for the replies. This is very confusing. I just met with our project manager this morning and even she is confused. She will contact the distributor who is one she deals with very often.

So my paperwork in the description section says "NC Concord Mpl APC White 5-pc". So that seems like Norcraft. However, I just noticed that at the top under reference number, it says "WOLF#" and my number.

Also to clarify something, it actually says inside the drawers, "Wolf Designer", not Wolf Classic or anything like that. Our project manager thinks this may be something new, some kind of merge, but I don't know if I want to be the guinea pig. It was definitively semi-custom if that helps anyone figure this out. We had 3 custom cabinets made (fridge, oven, and range top). Does anyone know if the Wolf line that's not so highly regarded does custom cabinets?

The quality seems good to me, the only major issue was one of my drawers was a quarter inch more narrow than the other two in that cabinet, but I know that will be rectified. All the doors line up nicely.

Not sure what to make of all this.

This is strange. If you go to Wolf Designer Cabinets(they do custom sizes) website and look at the pictures or download the catalog it looks like Norcraft. The door styles are even the same name as Norcraft.

The only thing I can think of is that Norcraft is doing a line of cabinets for Wolf and branding them with the Wolf name. I've seen a few manufacturers have down this with certain select companies that have exclusive right to sell with their branded name.

Just seems like a re-branding, which is quite common in most industries. If the cabinets are essentially what you had seen and ordered except for the name on them, and they are responsive to fixing the minor details that seem to happen with any order, it's probably not worth spending much energy chasing your tail. If you got what you ordered (material, quality, and engineering-wise), except for the NAME imprinted on the box, then you're pretty much good to go, IMHO.

Aries-61 - Thanks for that last link. That actually makes me feel a lot better, because I had previously noticed that Norcraft and Mid-Continent Cabinetry shared those near identical websites with the exact same photos cycling though. So I guess "Wolf Designer Cabinets" may very well be just another re-branding of the exact same product, as beautybutdebtfree suggested.

I did email Norcraft last night, as nosoccermom suggested, but they haven't yet responded.

Wolf is a distributor for Norcraft. Recently they rebranded them to Wolf Designer. They want everyone to think they manufacture things, when in reality they are just a distributor. Who over sold the cabinets does not have an account with Norcraft, so they purchase them through Wolf Distributing. They also dropped the distributing from their name a while longer ago and just go by Wolf.

Well, it looks like with all your help we're finally getting to the bottom of this, and hopefully this thread might help someone else in the future when shopping for new cabinets. I just received an email from my project manager which echoes what robbcs3 said:

"Ok, so I've gotten some clarification on the Norcraft vs Wolf question. From what I've gathered Wolf has always been affiliated with Norcraft for the manufacturing of their higher-end and semi-custom lines, but on January 20th they did a re-branding and named it Wolf Designer. You ordered about a month after that timeframe, so I'm sure they were just still in a transition period. The lower range of Wolf cabinets are Wolf Classic (I even checked some that we recently purchased to confirm). Since this branding is new, and neither company owns the other one they are just affiliated for manufacturing, I believe that is why there is not much info online about it. They also told me that they just started stamping the inside of the drawers since this re-branding (which made it more confusing).

I attached the warranty for these cabinets which starts off by stating:
WOLF Designer Cabinets are manufactured for WOLF and this warranty is issued by Norcraft Companies, referred to below as
'the Manufacturer.'"

Now that you've solved the cabinet mystery, you've got another problem to address. That flex duct hanging down over your rangetop is not allowed by code as a safety issue. It's both too small and corrugated, which are going to be issues. You will need a minimum 6" rigid ducting from the hood straight through the roof or a wall penetration for a hood. A hood with enough CFM to handle a rangetop would be better with an 8" rigid duct.

That's all I saw too! Glad someone better versed said something. Beware of your GC and what you can't see beneath the surface here on out.

Thanks live_wire_oak for the heads up. I already spoke to them and they will be changing it out for an 8" rigid duct. Actually, believe it or not, right as I sent my email to them, I received one from my Project Manager saying that she had just reviewed the specs of our hood and noticed that it needed to be changed out for the 8". She didn't mention the flex vs rigid, but I made sure I brought it up.

FYI - Our hood is a 42" 1200 CFM, one size larger than our 36" range top.

I think reviewing the specs and installation manual on your 42" 1200 CFM ventilation system will actually show you will need a 10" rigid duct for warranty. Also checking with local county/city and state on whether make up air is required over a certain upper limit is prudent.

I just logged into my Wolf Distributing account and see that Wolf Distributing Co who is a wholesaler of kitchen and bath products to the East Coast has changed the name of Norcraft Cabinets To Wolf Designer.....

Norcraft Industries Is a company with several brand names they sell.... Most of the national cabinet makers create multiple brand names to distribute to more areas in the name of being exclusive... Its the way we Americans buy brands which are known names are thought to be a safer purchase.....

Are all brands of Norcraft Companies" Norcraft was for most purchases sold thru Wolf on the East Coast and Mid Continent normally meant the dealer was ordering from the office of the cabinet maker and not the office of the Wholesaler Wolf Distributing in York Pa.....

Wolf is in the middle of trying to brand their name instead of the companies who are making the products they sell.... The wolf classic cabinets are made by a company in the mid west... The designer series is still made by Norcraft they are just labeling them Wolf Designer to help Wolf create their name more in the market....

I was surprised as I looked through the brochure that a Wolf rep. left for me to look at this morning. I was thumbing through their Designer Cabinets brochure and on page 24 I see a wine hutch I once sold about 10 years ago. The picture is obviously the exact design, door style, and finish as I had the Mid Continent customer service e mail the exact 20 20 design to me so I could quote and then order it. I also noticed that the some of the finishes such as Briarwood, Briarwood with Black Glaze, and Harvest are ALL old Mid Continent finishes for cherry doors. It seems strange to me that the sales rep. offered no information to me about this. Thoughts anyone?

Wolf is a distributor of Mid Continent cabinetry as well as other lines.
