saw not running right

Hello All,

I posted at the woodworking forum and am just hoping for more information. I bought a DeWalt scroll saw that was supposedly barely used. Well it keeps tripping my GFCI, and does not run evenly--speeds up, slows down, speeds back up, then just quits. With and without wood being fed into it. Is this a bad motor? Where should I start (after having a talk with the guy that sold it to me)? Thought someone here might know something about power tool repair. I know very little. I checked the brushes and I think I put them back properly but really I don't know what the brushes even do. Thanks in advance.
