Bathroom sink: oval or rectangular? please vote

I posted originally on ba'room forum but since it's a purely aesthetic decision thought I'd ask the good eyes over here.... I'm redoing a powder bathroom. I love the vintagey look (Rejuvenation, RH). My vanity includes an oval sink, but for I always thought that rectangular sinks would look better in that kind of bathroom. Your thoughts?

This is what I have:

and this is the vanity that I ordered (countertop will be different):

I have one of each. Chijim posted an inspiration photo over on HGTV with a bathroom that had this sink, and I hunted it down til I found it, which was quite a job! It's from the Kohler Memoirs series. LOVE it!

I also have this semi vessel oval from Kohler called 'Serif', and this was the only one I found that would fit into the antique bureau I was using to make the vanity. Most sinks I found were 20" from front to back, and I needed 17" or less.

This doesn't help you, of course, but it will show you each style in two 'cottage-y' bathrooms. What's funny is that I replaced my original rectangular sink with the oval, and the bath in the first pic started with an oval sink and I replaced it with the rectangular one! The rectangular one grabbed me right off the screen when I first saw it....so personally, I guess I'd say it's my favorite.

This is just personal opinion but the rectangle sink to me is more contemporary. Since you like the Vintagy look, I vote for the oval. Coincindentally, the Memoirs sink was on our builders list for all our bathrooms and we changed them to oval. We don't like squares and hard lines, we like curves in our house! LOL!

By the way, there was a beautiful sink in the Kohler showroom that we almost bought but hubby decided it was too feminine looking. I thought it was fabulous and maybe it would go with your new awesome vanity. The picture doesn't do it justice. It's very pretty in real life. Also, are you sure you can fit the Memoirs sink in that vanity? Looks like you need an undercounter mount, no?? Oh I guess this one I'm showing you is self rimming too.

Okay, I obviously read this post way too fast and didn't realize it was my3dogs that was talking about the Memoirs sink. But my question still stands to the OP...do you know what kind of sink would fit in that vanity? Does it have to be an undermount or can it be self rimming??

I'd say this is pure preference. We have both in our home. The kids bathrooms each have a large rectangular sink as per our daugther's request and our son's indifference. The master bath has two ovals that work perfectly well for us. As does the oval pedistal in the half bath.
Here's a pix of our daughter's sink. Not sure why I left the hand towel over the sink. I know this was taken before the towel ring and mirror was found and installed, but I could have removed it for the picture. Ya know....

I love the rectangular posted above but agree that it's not vintage-y. If you want vintage, go with the oval.
I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Here is the photo where I first saw one of the Memoirs sinks, in a post from Chijim. I do feel it has a vintage look, but we all have different ideas! I wanted to use this one, but it was too large, so ended up with the one above for my half bath.

Love your vanity. An oval sink would really compliment the style.

I know this was posted a long time ago but could you tell me how wide your vanity and vanity top are? I love the rectangular sink and would like to use it with a 36 x 18 vanity with a 37 x 19 vanity top. Also, do you think it would be easy to clean easily the backsplash and sink? Thank you!

Don't think I care..but for sure I want a sink to be under-mount. I in no way am willing to give up any counter top to all these new sinks. Maybe it is because of the well water, but I also worry about build up in all those crevices. I am very curious to see how long this fad/fashion? lasts in sinks..my gut says people will decide the extra cleaning is not worth it.
