Kim, I did this on some shorts last weekend. The bottom of the seam was marked with a dot and I clipped to the dot, serged the seam, then turned under the raw edges of the slit twice and narrow-hemmed. Is that what you're trying to do? You have to fold the fabric back at the snip so it doesn't get into the serger knives or needles.

When I'm doing a skirt with a slit on one side I serge my edges seperately, then use the regular machine to sew the seam. I do like Donna said of folding it back, bar tacking at the top and then sewing each of the slit.

This was a timely thread. I did as suggested, serged the edges before sewing linen, also knew to serging, sewing machine a gazillion years. This is going to be one very successful blouse.
