How to Remove Graphite Pencil from Fabric?

I marked the wrong side of my fabric with a graphite fabric marking pencil, then ended up using that side for the right side. I expected the pencil to wash out easily, but it didn't. My pants look like a graffiti wall. Help?

I don't know specifially if this works for graphite but I have found ammonia works well to get out some stuborn stains. You put stained area over a bowl/sink and drip/pour, scrub a bit, what ever it takes. I treated a white shirt with mustard stains like this. If you try some spray and wash in washer or whatever kind of....do not dry in dryer, that will set stain, only drip dry until you know stain is out. For rust stains use salt and lemon juice.

I use a stain stick on graphite and it's worked every time for me.

Here is my 2cent that won't much and be easily done. In my mind it is gorgeous Since you don't need the storage space would remove the cabinet that is hanging out there by itself. If you want a display space would remove door or add glass to the front of door on the corner cabinet instead and display your pretty white dishes there. I like the idea of the lanterns but not where you have them. Would not use them on the island, consider trading them with the black ones on the table behind the sofa. Consider painting the island base black (second choice - creamy white) to add some interest to the space. Regardless of whether or not paint island you could add new island stools/chairs in a cream color (or even better with color) with backs on them to really get a color break at the island. The brown cabinets and brown floor and grayish- beige walls and beige tiles are clean and nice looking, not a mistake at all, but in my opinion you need something to break up that scheme to flow with your house since it appears you do like color. With the pretty green walls in dining room you could do something to add those colors in with a pattern of green on a white/cream background on the seating and a vignette with that color scheme (white, black and apple green) in one place on the island. A pretty vignette would be a large black lattice type urn filled with green apples or limes or moss, one of your white dishes from the current display and one of your black lanterns from the other table. With the corner cabinet filled with white dishes I just think this would be so pretty and would bring the green your eye catches just beyond into the space. Also consider adding glass shelves to corner cabinet and lighting.As others have said, pendant lights over island would really be pretty too.

;) Some of the above ideas would do it. I have seen the very expensive redwood walls like you say. The wall scones and valances mentioned above also done with these walls.. Yes a chandelier, rug, pillows etc light. Light color rug or slate or tile floor. Awesome Chandeliers (not wood color) (use metal, silver or white, there are unbelieveable styles to choose from, do web search) and sconces are available (matching?). Do not forget to use some beautiful wall outlet and switch plates in metal or white. It is about lighting and feng shui type chi. So much of one color here, also one element (wood) you just have to know how to bring more life to it. I would not white wash. Kitchen can do with white appliances or white with silver that is available now. Remember you can also use mirrors, there are various types, sizes, sets. Green plants? HERE YOU ARE, IDEAS!!!!

Love these things! We have an odd old "paneling" made out of--well--not wood; not the old faux wood paneling--maybe nuclear waste it IS that ugly! Was hoping this was the same thing! LOL!!! And beware the new WALL DECOR that is stick on with NO sticky back---the cling kind--we discovered last night that a LARGE wall calendar was let our grand daughter put up in our hallway outside of her room will now NOT come down--we finally managed to get a corner up and the PAINT came off the wall! WE were not really planning to paint right this minute so I guess we have a perpetual calendar for a while longer!!!!

Would a fabric eraser work? (I just found one when I went through my sewing basket - I'd forgotten I had it!)

I've always used a bar of Ivory soap on stains. Wet the stain and rub some Ivory on the stain. Scrub it in a little. That's it, you can wash right away or wait. The soap won't hurt the item even if it dries on it. Actually, I think it works better if it sits a while. It's especially good on grease stains, but usually works on most any stain.

I wish I would have checked back in before I last went to town. The only item I had on hand was the stain stick , so I used it (all of it! LOL). I rubbed it in the best I could and washed the garment again. The stain is much lighter, but it's still there. Maybe it will come out with another try; one of your other suggestions, or a few more washes.

This is just amazing to me because the pencil is MADE for fabric, and the label doesn't warn that it might be hard to get out. Besides, when I was a kid we used to write on our jeans with pencil, and I'm pretty sure it came out in the wash. I'm just flabbergasted.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I'm confident it will come out with one or two more treatments.

I have heard of a fabric eraser but couldn't find anything on the web. What is it; who makes it, and where can I find one?

I've been sewing off and on for a number of years - mine says "Fabric Eraser by EZ International" on it. I've used it to get pencil marks off my kids' clothes. Who knows, maybe it wasn't a big seller and they pulled it off the market? I've probably got a few of those kinds of things hanging about in my sewing cabinet and caddy. (smile)

Nancy's Notions, maybe??? My mom (who sews) got me a bunch of stuff one year from NN.

I called Wal-Mart and the guy says they just started carrying fabric erasers a few months ago. He says they are near the laundry soap and they work great -- even on non-laundry items. He couldn't say enough good things about them. Go figure. I've put it on my list. Thanks!
