Fabric Question

I am looking at a suit for my 14 yr old son (who is nearly 6'3") online. We bought one for my older son that is all wool and tried a similar one for the younger son but I had to return it due to an apparent miscut. I found a similar one, same designer name, but it is not wool. It is a poly/rayon blend. My husband and I are thinking "cheap" stuff, but I noticed others in similar blends. I haven't looked at suits in a long time since DH still wears the ones he's had a while and not as often these days. Have I missed something? Would you expect this to be a good fabric or something to avoid? Thanks

I tend to steer clear of anything that has rayon in it, but I'm not sure that would include suits as like you, I have no experience with it. I don't know how the rayon would be in a suit, but in woman's clothes it hangs like an old bag after a while especially if it's washed.

I suppose it would depend on just how much rayon is actually in the blend

I found something on a menswear website that said not to buy poly or poly blends because they would not wear as well -- would soon develop a sheen where the fabric has frequent contact, like elbows and such. The rayon probably doesn't improve things. I'm looking for wool, but if I found the perfect thing in a non-wool blend I guess the wear wouldn't be much of an issue for a 14 yr old who might wear it a couple of times a year.

Thanks for the reply. I posted on another forum and didn't get a single reply.

I sit here lamenting the soon demise of 2 pairs of favorite slacks that I have had 8 or 9 years. What to do. They are64% polyester, 32% Rayon and 4 % Spandex....made in USA by Hillard & Hanson. Today they are pilly and they collect hair (animal as well as mine, and may be a bit shinny, but they have been the mainstay of my wardrobe all this time including through weight gain and loss of 40 pounds. They may be a bit warm on hot summer days, but never cold like most polys. Never baggy knees (or butt).....OH to find such a fabric I would be back to sewing in a blink. Color is eggplant, and looks as good today as when new. I guess what I am saying is that don't dismiss certain fabrics just because....one just can never tell how it will wear, wash and hold up. Nanny, Emma One sock (Not associated) sells rayon/poly/nylon/spandex for $18 a yard or so. 58' or 60' wide, so depending on your size and pattern, one pant length may do.

If your younger son is growing up fast then I say buy the cheaper one since he will outgrow it soon enough.
