Rib knit stretched while sewing, can I fix it?

19 years ago

I made a pair of shorts out of a baby fine rib knit and the crotch seam stretched way out. What do you do to keep this from happening? Also is there anything I can do now to bring this seam back to normal, without it looking gathered?

I thought I was being careful but I had no idea it was going to stretch as much as it did (about an inch and a half).
