I would say that it is smooth without any ribs.

It looks a little like crushed velveteen. What I have seen is usually heavier than the tiny ribbed fabric but not as heavy as the wide wale corodory.... more in line with the mid wale corodory. I have seen it in upholstry fabric.

Back in the day (probably late 60's) we called it cordless cordoroy. It still has a nap, tho, and all pattern pieces should be laid out in the same direction. It has no wales and as joansews4u says, it resembles crushed velveteen.

Thank you. I am planning to make corduroy covers for pillows on our sofas, preferrably a nice golden-yellow or brick orange color. I found this ribless corduroy at E-bay and love the print (many thin stripes of bright colors) but wasn't sure about the texture of the fabric.
