Would this be helpful?

I kinda noticed that we need a place to perminantly list some stuff about our group...helpful links, members albums and websites, suppliers that we have had good dealings with, books we like etc. so I made this page on squidoo about us...of course it needs info but this is a bare bones look. Do you guys think this is a good idea? Should I continue or trash it?

As I said it needs info so can you guys point me to threads that might have members websites or albums? If you want me to add your mosaic or stained glass website or album send me or post a link. I posted a few tutorials, do you have any you like. The book sections on that page should allow you guys to suggest books for the list, I don't know much about stained glass so you guys will have to help me on what books are good for stained glass...the two I added I haven't a clue about so if those two books suck tell me and i can remove them. Any suggestions on new sections to add? p

Your idea is great and would be especially helpful to newbies! I have been dying for a place to list our suppliers (where to find millefiori, metallic tiles, 3/8" vitreous tiles, etc), for FAQs (what kind of adhesive do you use for....). I personally don't think we need another place for albums and I don't have a website so I can't speak to links. My first impression of the page was "it's too busy for me". Needs to be simplified and extraneous advertising eliminated. Just MHO mind you.

OH YES Pea I do think this will be helpful. Thanks!!! Will look for some of my favorite links although I am sure others here have better ones.

The ads are part of the hosts package, I don't control the ads. All squidoo pages have them, squidoo makes money off the ads so I don't have to pay for the page space. BTW, squidoo pages list well with google, it could get us some new members.

Its not another place for an album but a place to list member's albums that they already have...say you want to see that fabulous bathroom of slow but can't find the post on GW just look at the list on squidoo and hopefully, if all goes as planned, you'd find the link to slows album in the list...right now only mine is there cause I don't have links to anybody else's.

I just checked it out and it looks well organized to me, and easy to use. I didn't join the new album cuz I don't want to spend any more time on the computer than I do now, so checking out another site didn't interest me. This one, however, looks like a very useful one for supplies. BTW - thanks for the plug on the bathroom. Very kind. I do remember someone - perhaps NT - who posted a resource site not long ago, but of course, I can't find it now. This one looks like it would be more than just supplies. Here's a link to my albums.

I found the thread where everyone posted links to their albums, I am slowly adding them to the list. I'm arrainging it alphabetically by your GW name.

I think there is a misunderstanding, this isn't a photo hosting site(it won't host photos even if you wanted it to), its a site for stuff this group refers to all the time. Guys I am making this one, it can include links to where ever you want just get me the links and I will add them.

BTW, is there an album for the watering can challenge? and has someone started one for the holiday exchange? I'll add the links if you got them.

I think everything there is good, even the albums part, because I know I personally have WIP pix in my own PB album that might be something that someone might wanna see...and that sort of thing would be especially helpful for newbies to see how a project progressed, rather than just seeing the final version, which may leave them thinking "gee, I wish I knew how they put that together."
What I especially like is the supplies resource list, and the member pages- because we aren't allowed to post those here.
    I like it.
And I realize there are FAQs here, but occasionally, there is a "this is exactly how I did this" post, and those are especially helpful, IMO.

Feel free to add my album. I don't have the links off hand, but there are a lot of tutorials if you search. Slow did an explanation of the Riana method, Ladyronnie didone on epoxy, Nicethyme did one on cutting plates on the ring saw. There are more but those pop into my mind.

Oh and here's a link where Nicethyme got us 10% off at Maryland Mosaics

Pea.....I checked it out....not sure I like it. Take the faces out...not a good idea! even with member access only.
We get enough traffic...we don't need to advertise!

Pea. I went through the site and I do think it is goob. BUT.......... I agree with Hazie. I think the faces album needs to not be included. There is a sign in but if anyone clicks on one of the member albums then back to GWglass it takes them right to all of the albums faces included with out being signed in. I am not sure this is a good idea. I am also not sure how to change it from letting the world in with out signing in. Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I think take down the member albums we all know who or how to get there. The other links are great.

Irina Charny has just published a book of her work with the title... "I See Mosaics."
She self-published so I don't think it's available on Amazon... will check.
Anyway... she has some preview pages available on the site. Love her work!

ok, I'll take the faces link out.

I'm not sure why we would want the member's albums out...that was a lot of work to put them in. Just curious how would you go about finding my album here on GW? Search thru all the posts I have ever made in hopes it is listed somewhere? I don't know where yours is... if someone doesn't want their album listed and I have already listed it(I spent last night searching), just tell me, I'll delete the link but as a whole I like to see everyones work. If you want your album/gallery/portfolio/website listed and I don't have it just post to me or use the guestbook on the resource page(it won't post your message automatically but will send me whatever you wrote).

    Confused...We don't want new members?...

    Pea,

Wow! You have done a lot of work. Great job! That was so kind of you to do all of this.

    Pea...
It's just that we put our faces in OUR gallery, and this page is out there for everyone, not just people who come here. It just seems to be kinda advertising the gallery
we set up for US with a password. Some of those member's
that are linked there, aren't here anymore, to say if they
    want their albums linked there.
I have NOTHING against new members!!......just thought your new site was for helpful links...how to's..
merchants, etc. Not an outside internet link to our gallery page.
Since I'm not comfortable, and no one else is bothered by this but Shades. I'll just take my pic out....problem solved!

It looks like you get paid everytime someone clicks on your website, is that true?
I also didn't like the outside link to my personal Photobucket account placed there without my consent.

I removed the faces link...its gone...a valid concern...I thought it was only accessable via a password...no need to remove your own pic, no faces link on the resource page.

My question was about the member's albums...the way I read it Shades has a problem with links to member's individual albums. Perhaps I misunderstood. p

Lily and mangomoon are no longer here.....you should take theirs out too......or get in touch with them.

Pea, you have really done a lot of work on this site and it is very interesting to look through the links. I do appreciate that.

My personal album is not on your links and you have removed the faces page link so that is fine. I removed my face and pictures from Bama's site. I found last night I was some how able to get through to Bama's site with out signing in and to all members albums. I could have had a field day changing pictures. Putting up porn doing whatever. Of course I would not do that but being open to the public someone else might. It happened at Madhabitz sight many months ago.

My reference to others knowing where the albums were. Bama put her post on top for quite awhile until some one responded to it and it started down the page.:^(( It was on top so every one could find the site to others albums.

Anyway point is mute since I took my stuff down it is up to all the others to do as they choose.

I thought the site was for links to where to buy things to make mosaics. I thought that was a great idea. Or links on how to do certain things.

I really do appreciate all your hard work. And I will just shut up now. I do not want to start a feud.

It gone...the whole freaking thing...If i have to email every single freaking person..I don't have the time, I figured it was a good idea, it would be useful...

you guys do know once you post an album, photo, blog, comment on any site its out there for the world to see and link to as they see fit right? Are you guys asking for permission when you post links to other site when you link to eye candy and things you like?

I only wasted about 8 hours on it so I just don't feel like wasting anymore.

and since it apppears an accusation has been made no I do not get paid per click(squidoo gets paid when you click on the ads)...the amazon mods were the only commercial mods on the page and that was the only way to get nice legal to use book pictures. I take it back some of you guys aren't very nice or friendly at all.

I've been using squidoo to make nice and easy resource pages for over a year now for my clay students, I don't need to use html and I just copy and paste the info in the right spots. I thought it was a nice idea and now I get insults.

I will just continue to make pages for me and my students in the future. :( p

Pea - you asked what we thought . When the idea was shot down - you got all upset. Seems you jumped the gun before everyone had a chance to add their input and now your feelings are hurt . I also thought it was just going to be a resource site . Maybe things should have been spelled out better before you did all that work . We're just trying to keep our privacy ,that's all.

You have posted the links on a public forum, every post made on this forum can be found via google...once you post it, it is not private anymore.

The album section was on the page from the beginning...here is my quote from my first post, "kinda noticed that we need a place to perminantly list some stuff about our group...helpful links, members albums and websites, suppliers that we have had good dealings with, books we like etc. so I made this page on squidoo about us...", notice the words "members albums"? Wasn't it clear? I had people emailing me their albums for inclusion, I took the links of the albums from a post on this public forum, a post that is available to be found on google. I did not include any private info only publicly available info.

I can not imagine a group with group page not to include info about the group, group albums are a resource. If you just want a page with suppliers on it, type 'mosaic supplies' into google...they will give you tons of results.

Geesh , I figured it take about 12 hours to set all up and about 20 minutes a week to update and we'd have a nice page with everything we need in one place. I don't have the time to email everybody anytime someone post something. Perhaps someone else has that kind of time.

back to searching thru endless posts for stuff you want to find from now on...less work for me.

Wow, I guess I got here too late to see what you did Pea! It sounds like a great idea to see everything in one spot. I bet some of the concerns were from one of our members having been "stalked" a while back. Can't remember who, but it did scare me into being a little more careful (hopefully) in what I post! Thanks for thinking of us with what could be a great resource! Jennie

Pea- sending you calming vibes!!!!! Thank you for trying and spending all that time...please dont hold a grudge...and dont stop posting..I dont think anyone was trying to hurt your feelings!!! Im not trying to make this worse just want you to know your a great part of this forum and we would miss you!!!

These links were EXTREMELY helpful and interesting to me. Would it be possible to put the links on the main page for easy access?
