I took this bureau to a professional to refinish because I didn't really have the know-how to do it myself. I think after seeing exactly how he went about it, I am ready to do the next one myself. Here's what he did: first, he cleaned it thoroughly, sanded it, cleaned it again and then made a few repairs on the inside of the drawers. He primed it and then painted it with Benjamin Moore silver metallic paint in a glossy finish. We experimented with several paint shades before getting the color and sheen I wanted - he would do a sample drawer front and bring it to me until we got it just right. He cleaned the drawer handles and left those for me to do. They were pretty dark so I finished them with light touches of a combination of an oil-based silver metallic sharpie marker and Martha Stewart's silver metallic paint, using a very thin paint brush. Another note: he used a sprayer to paint this bureau, so there would be no brush marks. Hope this helps you!
