New Project?

Well, I've come across some more "stuff" I scored in Mexico last year, and have an idea of making a wire mesh tower to house these gorgeous cobalt blue 3inch glass stars and have this 4inch blue glass globe on top. It will be about 6inches wide x 36inches high, made from the double mesh method, with star shpes cut out to house the glass stars and some kind of platform on top for the globe. and the rest mosaiced. hmmm...

I had to go back & look for grout, I was mesmerized by the beautiful star. I'm not able to picture what you're making yet, but I'm betting it's gonna shine:)

lol .. I didn't notice the grout either ! I had to go back and really look, thanks for letting us know! Cool shade of green too!
( I am paranoid now that Linlee will spot some dirty socks in my photos)
Love the blue glass. Are you going to finish the lights first or do them all at once.. and just how many hands do you really have?

Janeybo: If I picture in my mind what you're planning, it'll be spectacular. If I'm seeing what you've described right, there w/be a light inside the tower to show through the stars??? What an amazingly creative mind you have. How many of those stars do you have? Can't wait to go shopping for more stuff w/y'all - just two more weeks!!!!!

Oh my gosh, I cant to see what you;re going to come with this time. I love your shrooms, wire mesh woman.

    Beautiful stars!!!!

I'm laughing because I didn't notice the grout either. That star is just gorgeous. Can't wait to see this project. So when you having this one done? Tomorrow? You are so fast!

    Pretty stars! There's grout??

Well, The plans of mice and women! Started with my wire mesh...folded it till it was 4x thick, started to cut out star shapes for the glass stars to fit into. Decided that 3 would be enough...but it was looking pretty flimsy, wobbly near the top (36"h tower) Soooo. I got the brilliant idea of trying to add backer board to the equation...seemed to help, can almost stand on it's own now, got some fine tuning before I add the mortar, but it looks like it'll be okay. I think I'll add mirror to it!

You make it sould like 3 hours is a loooong time! It would've taken me a week to even think this all through!
It's looking very interesting and can't wait to see it done!
Love the blue color of those stars!

That really IS going to be fabulous. Can/Will it be lighted?
I really do admire your talent and energy.

THIS SOUNDS WONDERFUL - great progress so far!

    Speechless!!!

Here is a side view of this bad boy, don't we wish we were that skinny!lol! And the idea is to cover all wire mesh with mortar and mirrors and leave the stars to shine from natural light, ie: in the garden. These ideas are just baby experiments to the big stuff I wanna build eventually, chairs, towers, statues, you name it.

Gonna be wonderful in the garden..can't wait to learn that process..skinny is right...as for me ..never will be again.LOl

That is looking great. Love those stars.

Wow! Where do you come up with these ideas? Mortar & mirror tiles, with those stars - I can't wait to see this finished!

All these mortar creations you make all have feet but I noticed that you mosaicked them. This does not go underground?

I don't really know why I put the feet on the shrooms...then mosaiced them was just me in a mosaic frenzy!lol! This project needs a base and am still working on beefing up the base actually. Got sidetracked cuz I had to help DD move out yesterday!!yaaa!!! So I'm rearranging the house and my craft room (which is sooo messy!!!) trying to reorganize things...Talked with my concrete specialist(Klinger) and feel ready to mortar this puppy, after a bit more tweaking! Yeah, gotta bling this out with mirror! And I just scored this thin cobalt blue porceline 2" tile that I might use.

Cobalt blue porceline tiles! Sounds like you found the perfect project to use them.

The wonder of pictures! I was envisioning a lighthouse shape, but this is much better. How are the stars held in the holes? Do you have a ton of adhesive around the edges? This will be so nice when it's finished and the sun shines through it.
