Calling Plllog! About Oven Location

If you are here, can you give me some advice on how close a gaggenau oven can go near a wall to have adequate swing?

We got ours out, read the installation, all it said was a minimum of 90*, but Rhome pointed out that there might be a concern of burning ones arm if it doesn't swing out, and suggested I ask you.

The wall has been framed, so we would need to find a new location for the oven if it's too close. Right now, there would be 3" between it and the wall.

Thanks so much!

And, anyone else who might know, have advice, I would appreciate it.

Hi Susied3. I have gaggenau double ovens with right hand hinges having full 180 degree door opening capability and I find that I don't usually go beyond 130 degrees or so, for safety purposes. 90 degrees could be tight if you are pulling something large from the oven.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you Clarygrace! Are your ovens in a cabinet run not close to a wall? Just wondering what you have next to your oven stack.

We could put the oven on the opposite wall, but then it would swing in toward the landing space, and you would have to go around the door. That wouldn't work well, would it?

No Susie, it would not...if that is the only landing space you have. here is a pic of the ovens, they are in the center of the perimeter run...the left has landing space, the right are china cabinets. I also have landing space right behind me at the island. That seems to work nicely, I find I use it the most. Our kitchen is now 95% done, but this pic was just after the granite was installed.

You know, I was just thinking to myself that I haven't seen Plllog for some time now. She was such a steady, helpful presence here for so long. I hope she's alright....maybe enjoying a super extended European vacation in a country without Internet access?? :-)

Funny, I was recently thinking the same thing....I too hope she's taking a nice vacation somewhere where you don't want to get on the internet, just enjoy the views, culture, food and wine!!!

I tried an email, so hopefully, she'll drop in!

    Hi Everyone!

So nice to be missed. Thank you all for the kind words. Breezy, not in Europe, but you got the lack of internet right, at the most inopportune time. Meantime, I've been tackling some big projects. I'm always available by e-mail (through My Page). (Even during the big outage, I had my phone. ;) )

I haven't much to add. I don't have any appliances with clearance issues. What I can say is that my single when open 90 degrees has room to spare for removing the racks. The entire cavity is clear and then some. The measure from the edge of the handle to the inside of the door is 3", but the door overlaps the trim. The handle only protrudes about 2".

I rarely open the door much past 90 degrees. If you have something big and heavy, you might want to use a barbecue mitt. The door of my toaster oven gets hotter, though.

In ultra modern kitchens, they install these flush, where 90 degrees open is the only option, so it really should be adequate.

Wow, thanks Plllog! That is reassuring. Maybe we can go a little farther out than 3", but not have to go in a completely different direction. I was wondering where you were also, I tried to search for your kitchen last weekend and couldn't find the thread anywhere, and I know it's not that old! Glad to see you are ok.

Thanks Clarygrace, duh, I have your kitchen saved, but didn't realize your oven type. Love your kitchen.

Thanks Rhome for hunting Plllog down, I didn't think of emailing her!

Hooray! Plllog is not gone! Too bad about not enjoying a richly enjoyable Euopean locale though. Don't tech problems always happen at inopportune moments? Glad to see you.

    Susie--sorry for the hijack.
