Harleysbud quartz countertop saga

I am FINALLY getting some resolution on the pathetic installation of my quartz countertops.

After my GC met with them April 25, they agreed to replace the right side and rangetop piece that were so poorly seamed. They did not want to replace the sink decking, and sent two installers out today to remove it and polish it outside. I did not have my GC here as he preferred to continually give them more chances to right wrongs, but I decided to deal directly with the installers as I was not going to give them more opportunities to fix these issues and allow my kitchen to keep being pushed back week after week. Insane.

After receiving two other fabricators opinions NOT to allow home polishing (as a human hand will never create a flawless polished top like the Csomething machine does)I met with the head installer who incredibly agreed with me about the lousy craftmanship of the original installation and he agreed that I needed two new pieces. In fact, I give him high praise how he handled the situation and was extremely agreeable and got the new installation rushed for the end of this week.

He also suggested I visit the fabricators Wednesday to view the quartz and make sure the lots are the same..hopefully these pieces won't have the striations and imperfections of the installed ones. I refuse to sign anything until the tops are installed and I've lived with them for a few days just to see if any imperfections somehow come to light.

So halleluia!! this Friday at 8am I should have a seamless countertop being installed correctly.........this after 6 weeks of being given the runaround.

Thanks everyone who's responded as you gave me support and strength to fight for my right to have a new shiny countertop without glaring imperfections!!!!!

That is great news! Great to hear the fabricator is owning up to the problem and taking care of it. Everyone makes mistakes and it is so much easier to forgive and forget when they own up to them and make them right. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your perfectly installed stone. Good job!

Glad to hear you are getting resolution, thanks to your perseverance and the willingness of fabricator to own up to a bad install and make thing right for you. Looking forward to seeing the countertops once again, but beautifully installed and that you are happy! :)

That's great! Yes, definitely inspect the slabs they will be using. Congrats on a job well done! Though you should never have been put in this position to begin with (GC's head in the sand, sloppy work by the countertop co.).

They removed our island granite and re-polished it with the CNC machine and it made no difference whatsoever. So, I am glad you are getting new pieces!!! I am hoping they will do a good job. I'll wait to toast them until the new quartz is in. Having been through a complete disaster with upstairs bath, I feel your pain. We finally got the new top but not without new problems to deal with. But I love the new material. I hope we will be celebrating on Friday after 8 a.m. Good for you standing up for yourself!!!

Like I said before, your support and suggestions gave me the strength to continue on with this problem and see it through to a positive resolution. I don't enjoy conflict, but when needed I can "woman up!". What a crock tho to have to go through. In the whole scope of world issues, it's a minor blip..but it made my life difficult for the past 6 weeks and it wasn't necessary.

What irritated me the most, was the customer service from the top...absolutely horrible. I found out from the installer that the man I emailed 3x's and sent pics to and never heard anything back except a terse text five days later at 8:45pm saying the original installer would be at my house the next day (really you text a customer less that 18 hours before sending someone out? Hello! I work!).......get this......is the owner!

I can't wait to post pics of my almost finished kitchen, since GC is going to install & hook up all my appliances. That's the best Mother's Day gift I can get! Will be having brunch for my mom at my house at 9:30am..too bad you all can't join me. I'd love to meet you and talk "house"....or maybe not talk house :)

Glad to hear you're finally getting the right thing done, please post pics ASAP.
The owner of the company sounds like the owner of the outfit that installed our cabinets (the ONLY contractor name given by Ikea in a _major_ metropolitan area, long rant for another day).
