We're remodeling a bedroom and my wife wants to mount two swing arm lamps above the nightstands. I rewired the entire wall, but of course didn't plan for this type of lamp. The swing arm really requires a secure mounting and the lamp comes with a plate that can be secured to a round electrical box, but also comes with a lamp cord and plug. Strangely enough the lamp also came with wirenuts. I know hard wiring the lamps in the box is not code, but would it be code to use a clock outlet in a recessed box and simply shorten the existing cord to a good length? I can hardwire those outlets pretty easily or add a switch to control. Either way the lamps, themselves, have a switch.
