When you do repaint, I hope you'll paint the entire fireplace a darker shade than whatever you choose, so that it will stand out. It's such an attractive focal point, I feel it needs to be different from the rest of the walls. Love that last rug, but can't see it working well with the green couch. With that said, I guess the first carpet would be compatible with all the upholstered furniture, as well as the paint colors you like.

It's a lovely room, and you've already got some nice essential furniture pieces. What do you have in mind for window coverings?

Sorry, I didn't read your message about the William Morris green matching your couch....if so, that's a beautiful carpet for that space.

As for moving the couch so the F/P can be the focal point, with the TV back in the corner, I think that's a great idea.

Yes, to the Wm Morris, sofa and tv changes. Maybe try the desk in the left FP wall corner Maybe add a wing chair flanking the sofa to the right but not blocking the tv. I think you can mix leathers, but I'd wait on the coffee table until the room is mostly done so you can better see if a round one would work. I'd also think about adding end tables and lamps for ambient lighting.

Yes -- try SW Universal Khaki ....paint out the radiator to match the new wall color so it doesn't stand out -- and if possible ... consider finding someone to make a radiator cover for it in the future ....

Yes -- the third rug is very very lovely with the tiles!

As for buying furniture -- at this time -- try to wait until the room is re-painted and the new rug is in place -- those elements will make a huge difference in the room's appearance ....

As for furniture arranging -- please could you take photos of the rest of the walls and space? So we can get a better visual picture of the whole room? Just wondering .... hope you don't mind!

Do you know what the original fireplace looked like? did PO wall over it, or maybe that is original. Would be great to have that area in stone. Any chance you can play with that, like using a stone veneer or would that look too tacky?

WOW what a fantastic space! If you go w/ brown for the walls I'd go w/ the W. Morris rug. If you go w/ a much lighter wall color I'd do that beautiful red rug!

The WM Morris goes with your tiles. If it really does also go with your rug, then bringing the sage and aqua together in a harmonious way will be interesting and fresh while still looking vintage.

If you face the couch to the FP and flank the chairs on either side of the FP, do you have anyplace to put the couch? Does the TV need to be in that room? That fireplace is such a stunning focal point (which you are not going to tart up with faux stone!) a big TV armoire really competes.

The William Morris rug would be my pick to complement the colors in the fireplace.

It is the original fireplace. Appreciate all of the feedback to do the switch of the couch across from the FP. We do really want the tv in the room as it seems too far to be down in the basement to watch tv when our three boys are sleeping upstairs. I'm not sure the cabinet will look ok in that far corner (where desk is). Wonder if diagonal or just up against wall is better. I do think the desk will look great in the opposite corner (left of FP).

Wonderful suggestion to get the rug and furniture and even paint all set and then think of ottoman/coffee table.

Will try and take some more photos of the other sides of room and post them.

That is a lovely space and beautiful views outside. I'm glad to read you plan to paint the walls though as the red really looks out of place. It's too bad the picture rail does not match the other trim. As is, I would suggest painting it the same as the wall color. The Franklin rug, while lovely, doesn't really fit your space and age of the home. The W. Morris rug is a much better choice. Make sure it's big enough as the one you have there now is too small.

What do you think of your FP niche? I'd be tempted to cover it up with a large piece of artwork and put a larger mantle below it. Something rustic and slightly primitive.
