I don't know if I would invest in granite counter tops for these cabinets. Seems like you are going overboard.

Should I replace cabinets too? ... Thank you

I think you should set a firm budget and stick with it. If the cabinets are in good shape and it's not in the budget to replace them right now, then I would wait.

I would paint the remaining walls in a color that will give some dramatic look.Burgandy it's nice one!

I'd replace the counter with a new laminate one until you have the money to gut the whole thing and start over.

If you are going to replace the cabinets, I would choose a new tiled backsplash. That really adds so much to the kitchen I think!

Will you be keeping the older tile? If you will, then keep that in mind when selecting new cabinets and counters. If your floor is on a raised foundation, there are a couple of productts that can be installed over your existing vinyl floor assuming it's not coming loose in any area. One product is called Adura by Mannington, and the other is DuraCeramic by Congoleum. They both have tile and wood looks and are called "Luxury Vinyl Tile". Chrysteen

I meant to comment on your cabinets too. I believe it's important to keep the character and period (the look) of your home when you remodel. Several cabinet companies to look at are KraftMaid and Bellmont for craftsman looks. Believe it or not oak in craftsman is still very popular, with a black counter top. Chrysteen

For a budget solution and if you are enamored with the yellow tile wainscot and like a retro look then you might consider a black and whie checker board patterned floor in linoleum squares or painted floor. You could leave the cabinets white and change the hardware. A black counter top in laminate or ceasarstone with a honed finish would work. I would avoid a shiny black granite counter top. If you can not find a backsplash tile to match the wainscot then just add a 4" back splash in the same material as the counter or a smaller scale black and white tile pattern. If your budget permits I recommend you replace the refrigerator with a counter depth model or build in the refrigerator so as to minimize the bulkiness. This could be a simple frame painted white. We would need more pictures of the other walls in the room to make further recommendations. Then save your money for a more major remodel in a few years if your budget does not permit it now.

I would go with a concrete overlay! They can even go over the yellow tiles in the back if you like and the weight isn't as much as granite so the cabinets can hold it since it's only around 1/8 of an inch.. The right company can design to what ever color you want

I would not do granite. Quartz but not on top of those counter tops. If it is clean and functional, I would wait until I could do everything at once. Granite requires maintenance. Consider all alternatives. Those cabinet do not go with Arts and Crafts style. They are very modern. They clash with the wall tile.

Thank you ramona Its true... I always wanted to replace them... Is it possible to just match and replace new cabinet doors...

If your cabinets are in good shape and fit the space well, you can have them refaced and add new doors for a fraction of installing new cabinets.

Sweet!!! And hopefully I can find something matches with the arts and craftsman and fit on these cabinet walls.. They are in pretty good shape...

Have you gone to retrorenovation.com. It is a great source for period detail, as is Arts and Crafts Homes .com. The book Bungalow Kitchens is also a great resource.

The kitchen tile looks like it could date back to maybe the 30's or 40's and the color is very cheerful. The current cabinets are simple enough to complement them. A great retro look is fabricated countertops of plywood base covered in laminate (don't say ick--it can look like soapstone) or with metal trim. They did do them in yellow back then. Orange red, dark red and grey were also popular.

A retro linoleum floor like Marmoleum, is also durable and green. Keep the checkerboard patterns muted if you do that (grey-reen and black for example) or create a border and a custom "rug" in the center.

Can look totally charming, and really quite modern in its way. Add other colors--a variety would work-- and some retro textiles or accessories. Fiesta Ware would look terrific with this kitchen and could be kept on display in a plate rack. And you won't have the same kitchen everyone else has.

One thing I like about older kitchens is that they are cheerful and colorful, and don't take things too seriously. You have lots ofoptions to work with what you got without spending a fortune and keeping the character of the house.

Here are some pics of 1920s-40's style kitchens with white cabinets and bright colors.

At the end of todays amazing suggestions I have come to following conclusion...
Reface cabinets with white traditional look. Paint the walls with bold yellow. Dark and blackish brown countertop which isn't shiny. Adura luxury vinyl flooring with light brown hardwood floor texture. My appliances are stainless steel. Including the stove hood. Thanks. ZZzzzzzz
