Go to Hobby Lobby and get a big intial letter of her first name. Spray paint it white and place an empty frame around it and hang it over the crib! Look through all the inspiration pics on Rate My Space for more ideas.

I think you are brilliant to not worry about having everything done before the wee one arrives. Take your time and wait on the walls until you find things that "make your heart sing" as others have said. Personally, I would love to see a cool, fun mobile in the corner between the windows. I also like your idea of a whimsical mirror. You could also check out wall decals which are easy to change as she grows into a toddler....little girl...

Make colorful tissue paper pom poms and hang with fishing wire at different lengths in the corner over the glider.

Congrats in advance. I am not sure I am allowed to put the site that I found this picture on. It's my new addiction. I think something like this above your built in white cabinets could introduce many more colors to your room. You could have such fun adding some cute/colorful framed paper or fabric. Have fun. This also looks like it can serve as a changing table with a cute little color cushion but obviously never turn your back as there are no rails on the sides.

Your room is lovely....soft and restful...sweet baby colors. But I think for a baby it lacks stimulation. I can see some large mostly black and white faces on the wall a mobile or 2....out of reach but with bright contrasting colors, twisting as you open and close the doors, you need a source of music, Mozart is touted as calming and for making smart kids, but I think any well ordered baroque music is good, like Bach or Vivaldi, Salieri.
Don't sweat "art" on the walls....that's mainly for you...for your daughter think big bright contrast-ey images that get changed every few months. a mirror that she can admire herself in (they make wonderful crib mirrors, totally indestructable)....and most of all think....enjoy that little one and provide her with all sorts of interesting things to do and to look at.

Congrats!!! I got these from homegoods and have seen them still recently. they were hard to hang because 26 can not go into even lines but they covered a great deal of wall space and the colors are lovely. Pardon the grid lines i never got around to erasing them and IRL they do not really show up. you could also hang them around the top of the room like a boarder. I think the colors work in your space too I thought it might work in your alcove wall. Also I have my daughters room on a dimmer and now at four it is a nitelite It really was usefull during the nursing stage. I also love the framed paper what a great idea!!!

I also think every little girl needs a chandelier in her room!

My niece painted her baby's nursery grey and added some tissue paper flowers (similiar to another poster) of several soft shades of pink. It looked so pretty! She bought hers from Etsy, but I have made them easily - and so cheap. You just cut scallops on several layers of tissue paper, accordian fold it and tie a string or twistie through the middle. Then you pull up shape the layers. It is a quick fix, and cheap enough that you can replace them if and when you find something else you like better.

roarah- LOVE those!!! And love the idea of a border.... I was at our HomeGoods today and didn't see them... bummer. We have one more, so maybe I will check.

Lauren I love the chandi decal if you can not add a real one. I think on the forum was a link in a living room thread that linked light kits for fans and one was a little girl chandi:) Also I was thinking you could incorporate the abc art with the idea that futuremrsr posted and buy inexpensive small frames and print your own letters to frame. Instead of abc's you could spell her name, which is lovely btw, using 7 individually framed letters.

futuremrsr- would you mind sharing the site where you found the framed scrapbook paper? Or tell me what to google so I can find it? ;) It's really cute.

Lauren, OMG just be prepared to be addicted. You can spend hours on this site. I wasn't sure I was allowed to share the site but I will give it a shot. The site is called Pinterest. Hope this link works. If not, just goggle it. I think you might need an invite. If so, email me your email address and I will invite you. It is a wonderful site just full of inspiration. For example, I typed "nursery" for you and you get sooooo many nursery pictures. You can simply search for just about anything. For example, I want to do a gallery wall of art and sure enough I searched "gallery" and wow....hours later I knew exactly what i wanted to do. I found the site a little hard to understand. It is basically clipboards of all your favorite things. You can follow certain people and "pin" their items to your own clipboard, etc. Also, you can pin just about anything you find online. Once you set it up, if you see something online that you want to save, you simply click on "pin" and it will be saved to your clipboard. Sounds confusing but once you get the hang of it you will be "pinning" all hours of the day and night! LMK what you think of it and if I need to invite you.

Future- lol, I *just* registered for this site yesterday. I've known about it for a while, but I tried to stay away. The last thing I needed was another site to "spend" (errr... watse) my time on. But now I'm a happily registered and active user. It's a very clever site, for sure!!

My DIL and DS are expecting. She went to Michael's and got embroidery hoops and pieces of flat shaped woods and unfinished papier mache animals. She painted everything and wrapped the hoops with ribbon. Hung it all with fishing line to make mobiles. They are stunningly cute. You could pic your room colors as she did. I don't know how to get the pics from me email to here...she sent me a bunch of pics. c

Love caroline's dil mobiles. I think things that helps stimulate and develop babies' brains are wonderful so hope you consider adding mobiles, a shelf for books, a music source for classical music, and the alphabet wall among the other wonderful suggestions you've gotten. In addition to mobiles and books, one of the gifts I like to give new parents is a musical lamp with a nightlight for their baby. They usually come with carousels so the child is entertained by the tinkling music as well as the movement. Makes for a soothing ritual which is important for little ones.

If you don't find the perfect mirror, you could hang a simple round one and paint whole flowers or petals around it. I've seen colorful papier mache birds attached to a wall for 3 dimensional interest, and think that would be a fun idea to incorporate. Butterflies or other beautiful things to inspire a love for nature would work too.

Do consider swapping to cordless blinds or at the very least tying the cord to the top so nothing dangles by the crib or the rocker.

I haven't read the responses so if this is a duplicate I apologize but recently Sara Richardson & Tommy did a nursery & girls room that had the cutest ideas. for one room, she ordered (but you can always make them yourself) animals made out of wall paper. As usual both rooms were beautiful and fun. There's eleven pictures with all kinds of inspiration.

I never like anyone else's room altogether. I usually find several pictures that I like and pick different elements that strike my fancy from each one.

One idea I haven't seen posted already is this really, really cute (and affordable) hanging of paper lanterns. I love how they add so much color to the space. You could buy whatever colors you need to match your cute window treatments and baby will enjoy the shapes. What do you think?

I'm so glad you posted pictures! I've been wondering how your nursery was coming along. It looks beautiful.

I agree with the recommendations for the tissue paper pompoms. I just finished making some for our nursery (DD2 to arrive any day) the other night and love the way they turned out. There are two shades of aqua paper at Target right now and Walmart has a couple of shades of pink; they work together beautifully. I don't have any pictures yet but will post some when I do.

A fun mirror would be a great idea either above the dresser or by the door. We found a round one with a cut-out frame at HomeGoods and painted it. It's darling.

Above the dresser, I would do a whole bunch of framed pictures--either color or B&W--of the baby, family, etc. That would be another spot to work in her intial, maybe a shadowbox with her hospital bracelet, etc.

I would also definitely add a bookshelf either next to your door or on the wall adjacent to the dresser. It's invaluable not only for books but also for a few toys, more pictures, etc.

Wow! Lots of great ideas! I love the pictures that people sent in! I have boys so no good ideas from me, but I wanted to remind you to be sure to use cordless blinds or roller shades for safety reasons in the room. I can't tell if that is what you've got or not but just wanted to add that reminder. The most economical ideas would be roller blinds and there are some really nice options with tassle pulls, and fancy borders, etc. Bali has a nice selection and a virtual decorator tool that allows you to plug in your floor, wall, accessory and furniture colors when you are considering the different options. They even send free swatches.

The valances are beautiful! I love the room, too - there's just so much you can do with it. Have you chosen a theme? I did the jungle theme and got most of my nursery decor on aBaby.com. The wide variety of nursery decor they have will give you some ideas of what you can do with that wall space! Have fun! I landed up putting a wall decal of DD's name - it looks really nice!

Mirror from HomeGoods... I *really* want to paint the frame a glossy pink.... but am unsure how. Thoughts? (I promise the mirror is centered... not sure why it looks so off in the pic.) Also- the little wall hanging... it matches the room, was only $12, but I don't know where it should go. Maybe back to the store? lol

My mom DIY'd the letter "C" out of buttons... I love it! I'm not totally happy with the placement of the "art" on this wall. Something needs to be adjusted.... WDYT?

Lauren, you're doing such a beautiful job! When is your baby due?

One thought I had was that the C (which I just LOVE!) would look terrific grouped with the two floral/abstract prints to the right of the doorway l -but I think the C would have to come out of the black frame, perhaps it doesn't even need a frame. Then on the other side of the doorway, you could put either shelves or hooks, or even a shelf with hooks under it. I think you'll find both of these to be hugely useful in a nursery and later as she grows. As to the mirror, it will be very easy to paint. You need to rough up the surface a bit so that the paint will stick. Just use a fine grade sandpaper, and clean the dust off well with a damp cloth before you paint. It's a small project -you could easily do it with acrylic paints that come in the small bottles at Michaels. The biggest challenge will be keeping the paint off the mirror. But just tape carefully, and you should be okay. Just love the room!

My GD had eeboo animal alphabet cards (the all around the land set) decorating a wall in her nursery. They are very colorful and nice quality. My DD just used double faced tape on the back to attach them to the wall.
