Really cool look. Colors are outstanding together.

I just used a piece of plywood for the base. I grouted everything but the smalti. Smalti is not as fun to work with, especially if you are trying to stuff a bunch of colors in a small area.

Very wonderfully creative! Love the colorful combination of glass and beads! BTW, the beads are in a wonderfully straight line...did you string them on thread or wire (or are you just one of those people who can lay stuff straight by eye)? I have beads I want to put on a very special piece, but want them to go straight along the edges of a center clear piece tht has some words under it.

OH That is pretty. I am working on a piece with beads in it and worried on how hard it is going to be to grout and clean them up. Guess I am going to find out.

EXACTLY, KUDZU: A quilt. SIRIUS - how pretty and creative is THAT?! I'm too stingy to buy smalti. I DID buy some off cuts of the gold. They're thicker than the other glass. I put a few pieces in the Buddha. Not sure whether to put the gold leaf up or down. Anyone know? I REALLY like this wall hanging. You have a special place for it?

I strung the beads on tiger tail wire then glued them down with the strong sticky stuff, then went it kind of set up, I pulled the tiger tail out and the beads stayed. They weren't bad at all to clean the grout off. The smalti is expensive, so I just bought a pound of the mixed colors. I had to chop up the pieces into smaller pieces in order to have enough to fill.

Had to look again - LOOK at all those mitred corners, making a very nice secondary background design - just like in quilting. Must have been tedious

What did you use for adhesive for the smalti?
Is grout forbidden on smalti? I know most of the time it isn't used but not sure why.

Those are gorgeous! Love the use of all those different materials together. Never had the nerve to use smalti because it is sooo small and thick. You did a great job with it. Smalti is porous so grout stains it; is that right?

Tiger tail is in the jewelry section. It is a coated wire. I just found it's easier to get the wire out after sticking the beads on the glue. I just used weldbond to hold the smalti. I've always read that you don't grout smalti because it has all those tiny holes in it and also the beauty of the glass will be gone.

Siruis- I saw this post yesturday when I didnt have time to respond. This is really just great. I love smalti and have always wanted to use it but like everyone else said the cost just keeps me away. It is so colorful!!! You did a beautimus job!!!

Fantastic use of color, the eye moves across your piece very easily. I've never used $malti, I do like what you've done with it. It adds a very nice textural dimension to your piece. And great idea to pull the wire out after gluing, hadn't thought of that, but I will now! Thanks!

The overall picture really is stunning! The colors are placed perfectly.

I bought the smalti from MosaicSmalti.com It isn't too bad if you buy the small rotti mix or the rainbow mix. Then you have a lot of colors to play with. I bought it just to see how it was to work with.
