Help with DR paint choice

We are repainting our whole house and I'm struggling with the DR's color choice for a couple of reasons. As background, we have a center hall colonial with the DR on one side of the center (staircase) and LR on the other. Both rooms are not big. In the LR we used BM Windham Cream which I love - it's a very soft warm yellow. That room has accents of red and a touch of green/beige.

The DR meanwhile is currently BM Limestone. This is a very light pastel like green with some gray undertones:

The DR has a chair rail as well, but we did the whole room in the Limestone. We don't love this color so I am open to suggestions/thoughts? I am wondering if it has to compliment the Windham cream (and therefore have to stay light/within same famiily)? Our DR chairs are beige with green accents and the furniture is mahogony. No rug yet.

Thanks so much.

How about doing the windham cream below the chair rail and a red like your accents above? The windham would then tie in with the LR while the red would give it a separate look. Should look striking especially if you pick up a rug with all those colors in it

Janine, I'm not good at picking my own paint, so would not begin to try to help you.

But, perhaps you could help me (LOL). I have been looking at the BM Limestone sample for quite some time as a possibility for my LR as I have the Flowering Herb in kitchen and Baby Turtle in powder room (both from the same strip). Both these room are somewhat open to my LR.

Limestone looks very pastel on the chip and on the few pictures I have been able to find, so I am thinking it might look a little more "earthy" in this room since I do not have good natural light. Most colors look "drab" in this room, so I am thinking that perhaps the lack of light might "drab" the Limestone to a more neutral look in this room.

Thoughts please! Plus I would love a pic if you could share.

I tried a limestone sample on my ceiling and found it to be almost yellow. try a swatch because as you said, in a room without much light it might just do the trick.

Limestone is very pastel. Our DR gets alot of light though. The reason we went light in shade is the room is tight and didn't want to feel boxed in. I think the shade works if you want a v. light, subtle green which will make the room feel larger/brighter. At night I would say it looks less green, more gray-beige - but still light. It sounds like it could be a good match for you since you have the other shades. Sorry that I don't have a pic..but I don't think it would give a good true impression anyway -- it's one of those shades that is subtle and can come across differently in a photo.

How do you like flowering herbs? I was considering it too :).

Flowering Herbs is my favorite color in my house - actually have it in kitchen and spare bedroom. It looks "greener" in the kitchen and takes on a khaki green look in the BR with one small window and very little direct light. I used the Pearl finish which is the BM satin (I think) in kitchen and eggshell in BR. That could make a slight difference in the appearance.

One of the paint experts on another board refers to it as the "chameleon" color.

Let me back up - I said I couldn't help you, but maybe I CAN give some advice. I just had a DUHH moment! My dining room is a buttery yellow called Homestead Resort Sunwash (Valspar) and it looks great with my Flowering Herb kitchen (they are open to each other. My accents are beiges, greens, red, golds. I also like the idea of Wyndham Cream and red together.

What color is the hall? Are you planning on repainting there?

You say your LR is Windham Cream, a warm yellow. If so, Flowering Herb would look wonderful for a dining room color with accents of red, beige and cream!

Cpartist - you are right, I do need to sample in my space.

The foyer between the DR and LR is tiny - just space to come in the front door. The color right now is a warm cream which leads up the stairs. We will be repainting, not sure if we'll stay with the cream though (so many things to decide!).

Flowering herbs sound wonderful. I like the idea of yellow too. So you have the warm yellow DR which leads to Flowering herbs kitchen? Any other rooms within sight? Sounds lovely!
