Here is my dilemma; newlywed, no furniture, no money. My taste runs more on the glam/industrial/eclectic/mid-cent modern side, but I still want the house to feel cozy and be practical for living. We are moving into a rental property where we are permitted to paint, but we have to repaint it back when we go (next year, we aren't here long).

I was contemplating doing a bold color choice on all the walls and ditching the "accent wall" concept, but I'm afraid going dark (like a deep indigo) is going to be a real son-of-a-gun to repaint white. We get a lot of natural light as you can see in the photos--there are no lights on in the house when I took the picture.

I would also like to arrange the living room to facilitate social gatherings. I'm aiming for lots of chats over drinks, tea, snacks, and fostering hanging out rather than centering the living room around the TV. That random short wall in the first pic is the "official accent wall" and where the TV is "supposed" to go (we're thinking of putting it upstairs and creating a media room).

Just behind that accent wall is the kitchen, so a major traffic path would involve crossing in front and behind it.

I hate the floors, but I don't know what else I can do other than throw some type of area rug over it. Even then it won't disguise the odd choice of giant stone linoleum. Can anyone suggest how to turn it into an asset?

I know I don't yet have the furniture or decorations needed to achieve the feel I want, but please suggest what you would put in there. I'm constantly scouring thrift stores and the like so I might run into something. Thanks a bunch!
