Okay, here we go again. I've eliminated the hand-tufted rugs and the "unknown" hand-made that, when I chatted with O, they said they didn't know. I looked for darker ones but really didn't like any of them so these are my top 4 in the order of preference. And luckily, hubby's top pic is the same as mine. :)

Sue: Thank you for the complements on my room. I can tell yours is going to be lovely as well since I like your choices and colorscheme. The red ottoman is a nice and unexpected addition. I understand about the budget limitations--which is why there is not a Karastan in my FR now; though I may end up forking over the $$ yet; though will try on CL. Have you looked at Couresan rugs? They are a step down from Karastan, still lovely and seem to be good quality.

Have you received any of your furniture yet? I can just say from experience that while the Chloe chair is lovely it is challenging to coordinate with the paisley pattern. I checked the Macy's website and was trying to tell if you ordered the Sage or Almond version. Do you have any WTs in the room and if so what are they? Are you planning to use the pillows with the sofa? They also have a paisley pattern. For that reason, I'd perfer to see a less swirly pattern in the rug. Would you consider a Bakitari rug? I almost purchased this one from O. As I recall it had excellent reviews.

You are voicing my big fear on the Chloe, that I might not like the pattern once it's here. But I'm stuck. They're scheduled to be delivered on Tuesday. Gulp. I ordered the Sage.

I'm not married to the pillows on the loveseat. They're just what came with it. Pillows are easy to mess with later.
Much easier than rugs!

There aren't any windows in that area. You can see the kitchen windows from there and I supposed if I were a purist I'd be more worried about connecting them but I'm in love with my blue and white and yellow kitchen. Here's the closest window on one side, in the kitchen (though the walls have been painted in there as well as in this sitting area.)

On the other side, in the library, there are windows with white Duettes that are wide open 99% of the time.

As for marrying patterns, I guess I didn't think about it a lot before. I just went with my gut. You can see here the paisley of the loveseat in the library with the patterned rug. Plus this is the closest window on the other side. No WT to speak of.

Val, forgot to comment on the Bakitari rug. It's an interesting rug but to me it reads super busy to put in that spot. I really appreciate your thoughts and just being a sounding board. Hubby isn't interested at all.

Have you tried some smaller patterned rugs? I'm not recommending the linked one, just looking for a smaller type of pattern.

Oh, and Val, on that ottoman. I'm thinking it's going to end up more chocolate than red if the reviews on it are anything to go by.

How about something open with a small pattern, like this. I actually like either colorway with your things, even the blue-green with your greens and red accents.

Here are the last two I'll probably post and then I'll quit. Trying to find things that are not hand-tufted, in my price range and that make me smile to look at them has been exhausting. I'll take another look at these with fresh eyes in the morning and then just make a decision. I like all the ones I've posted so I'm sure it will be okay once something gets here. I'm just glad I learned about the hand-tufting before I ordered one. Picking the runners should be easy (ha) after this.

The last one seems to really work. Maybe a bit busy with the chair, but not really, and I think the lovely colors that tie everything together makes it an excellent choice.

Susan- I think the cream border gives the rug something to keep it from being a solid busy pattern like the chair. I hope that makes sense. I kinda like it. And the vote for the first or second set of tables. They do look the same.

shannon - yes, that makes sense. Thanks. As for those tables, they might be the same, I don't know. #1 was from craigslist and the second set was from somewhere online. I didn't go look at the ones on CL yet. They weren't that cheap to make the long drive appealing but maybe if their price comes down. :)

I see what you're saying about being busy. The print on the chair looks larger though so it could work. Also remember the design will be larger IRL on a full size rug.

I like the last one too. The cream border lightens the pallete and brings out the other colors more.

Pillows are easy peasy to change. Those are just what came with the loveseat. :)

I'm not sure which of the last two rugs you are worried about being 'too something' but I think the polypropylene one looks that way. Have you seen those in person? It looks like the type of rug I've seen where the colors are very vivid/sharp and the pattern looks too perfect and crisp, almost like it was stamped on. IOW they look cheap. I don't think you'd be happy with that type of rug.

I think the patterns you're looking at are too similar in scale to the chair fabric. To me, that looks too busy as it all kind of runs together. You need to vary the patterns you choose so that they offset and complement each other rather than compete.

For the tables, I prefer something more like #4 because they appear to have a softer more natural finish and are more casual in style. I don't care for their high gloss and more formal look with your pieces. Probably in good part because they have that 'mass-produced overseas' look. The others probably are mass-produced also but they don't look like they're trying to be fancy.

If it were me, I'd wait until the other things are in and live with them for a while. See what comes to mind after things are in place. Then go hit the rug stores to actually look at rugs accurately up close and bring a few home.

spring - yes, that's the one I was worried about being too "something". I'm taking it off my list.

And yes, the mass-produced feeling is something I'd like to avoid too. Probably why I haven't bought any nesting tables yet. :)

Good point on patterns too similar in scale to the chair. I seem to have tunnel vision and keep being drawn to those same styles when I am looking.

Problem with looking at rugs in person is that they are the ones that are usually way out of my price range.

Okay, I said I wasn't posting anything else but just this last one for the people who have said seagrass, even though I don't care for the feel of it I wanted to see what it looked like.

Someone recently mentioned a PB natural rug that was very soft. The reviews weren't great on wear but maybe a different manufacturer would have something. Is jute softer? I see they have a chenille jute. Don't remember if that was the one a poster mentioned. There's a wool sisal on one of the natural rug sites too.

Here's another, small open pattern on sale at PB. No mention of severe shedding in the reviews. It does say latex back which people complain about and according to the below article is bad for floors but it appears to have a cotton back over that. I wonder if a rug pad eliminates some of the problems mentioned below with the latex backings. I think the latex back might indicate hand-tufted. I wouldn't expect an inexpensive rug to be perfect or hold up for the long run. These are the alternatives available to the more expensive hand knotted rugs.

Looking again, I still like the first of your last 2 pack and this time, think the pillows can stay.

However, looks-wise, I like the plainer seagrass one by far. It leave you free to do patterns for the furniture and pillows and looks very neat. Hopefully you can find one similar that is softer like you want....

Susan: I feel your pain and frustration choosing a good quality rug in your budget. Believe me I went through the same. What I'd suggest is the following. First get all your furniture in place, then purchase some smaller rugs in different colors/patterns that you think could work from a local store where they can be returned. Don't worry so much about the quality, but look at patterns/colors. This should give you a better feel for what does and does not gow with your furniture--particularly the chairs.

Also, try to look at websites with a good return policy. JC Penneys has reasonably priced rugs and can get returned to the store. I think the same is true with Home Depot. Sheesharee was looking at getting a rug from Home Depot awhile back and she was able to see samples in the store which she could bring in fabric cushions to compare with. I was pleasantly surprised that she found several nice ones in her price range.

I agree with val, get your furniture in place and then shop for a rug. If you dont find something right away, just wait. It takes time to find the right rug.

While I know a house is never totally "done" I need to get to a point where I am okay with this space because I find myself less able to focus, and since I work from home, less able to function, with all the chaos around me.

Okay, I'm such a ding-a-ling. I've been looking at the mock-up I did and freaking out that I wasn't going to like the chairs I ordered once they got here. Something was off.

Well DUH! I had the wrong chair color in the mock-up! My chairs were just delivered and they are a beautiful sage green and I love them!

But now the rug search begins anew because I don't think a mostly green rug would work at all. I'm leaning toward red and maybe black.

The chairs are beautiful, love the colors and the print. Will you still go with the reddish ottoman?

Glad to hear that you waited on the rug. The chairs are lovely and are a closer match with the sofa pillows. I agree a green rug would not be the best choice. I like your idea of adding in more red, though not necessarily a red rug--esp if you want to get a red ottoman. What about an ivory rug with rust and sage accents with perhaps a black/brown border?

Thanks, Val. The ottoman is really up in the air until I can make some fake ones for size. I love the round Jessica ottoman from JCP but it's 38" across and I think that might be too deep. Tomorrow I can throw some fake ones together and then move the furniture around to get a better feel for it. I have the chairs pulled close to the loveseat now and I really like that cozy factor.

I had a few of those Lyndhurst rugs saved as well. I have a Lyndhurst runner by the back door and hate the color. It was ivory but it's really gold. Not a color I want to feature.

While I love a black rug, and will likely have one in the bathroom or the entry hall, it might be a little too stark. I was drawn toward browns.

Those are also very pretty rugs. I particularly like the last one you linked. I was also thinking brown would be a good choice; though was not sure if hand-knotted was in your budget. One thing I found frustrating on Overstock is the colors are not accurately depicted with the online pics. If you read through the reviews you will notice how many people comment on that and it seems not many reviews for handknotted rugs. One piece of advice I had received is to rely more on the written description as far as colors and less on the pictures. Another thing that I noticed from another poster as well as with the rug that I purchased, is that the background is not uniform, but more blotchy with the "abrash" affect. If often gives a richer look, but again, may be a surprise as does not show up well in online pics.

Is that the right size as they seemed a tad small. It would be helpful to mark that out on your floor along with the different ottoman sizes. One thing I was wondering is if you have the space for the ottoman. Do you plan to use the recliner feature with the Chloe chairs? If so, you will need open floor space for that.

Val, yeah, I've had the same thing happen with the colors from there. I've got 6 or 7 rugs from O. I do the same thing you do...read the descriptions very carefully. :)

And yes, I plan to mask out the rug too. I need to play with the arrangement of the furniture too. Tomorrow, when my arm can handle it.

As for the recline feature on the chairs, not when they are in that space. When my husband has his group over once a month the chairs will move into the library and they'll have plenty of room for reclining in there. But in the sitting room space, they're not going to be used much at all. (Hence not wanting to spend a ton of money on them.)

I would do a wood or glass coffee table because another fabric option would be too much in my opinion.

I don't have anything big enough for there, just a bunch of runners, but it could help with colors. The black isn't feeling good, too harsh. I'm really thinking brown is the direction I'm heading.
