Large/medium Dbl sink; Which side next to Dishwasher?

So, the Kohler sink I am looking at is slightly smaller on the left sink, slightly larger on the right sink. I have seen a sink opposite with the larger sink on the left side, so there are options to consider.

My dishwasher will probably be on the right side.

Which side would you want the larger sink on?

And why?

Thanks so much, where else would I go for this kind of information.

Very Appreciative,

Lisa

If you tend to stack or collect dirty dishes waiting to be loaded in the dishwasher, I think it'd be most handy to have the large side closest to the dishwasher. It can be your soak and stack side, while leaving the smaller side free for other tasks?

I'd like the larger bowl closest to the DW. I would also put the disposal in that sink with a drain toward the back. I do think this is personal preference and there is no 'right' way, only what makes sense for the cooks and helpers in your kitchen. Go through the movements of what you do to get dishes from the table to the DW and figure out how the sink is involved: do you rinse, or just scrap (into the garbage or into a disposal?) as that may affect sink arrangement.

Thanks so much to you both!! Such a good point, that is how I usually stack dishes. I might not have a disposal (septic system), but that is probably the best configuration.

Just an opposite point of view. My larger side and disposal is on the left, smaller on the right with DW to the right of the sink. I did it this way out of pure habit. We had a double bowl, equal size before and I always had my dishdrain in the right sink. Now I have sink grids and I wash little things left to right (like cat dishes, chopping knives, etc) and just drain them on the grid.

My set-up works because I rinse dishes with the DW open and they go right in. Easy when you are only a family of three, I know a lot of people aren't the same :)

MY GC has his sink opposite, so it's whatever works for you. They look great either way!

Our DW is on the right. We have the large bowl on the left, and the small bowl with disposer on the right. Dirty dishes get collected in the large bowl on the left. At clean up time, they are then scraped with a rubber scraper into the (empty) small bowl w/disposer on the right and placed directly into the DW on the right.
Having the disposal in the small sink keeps the disposal clear and available for putting stuff down it even if I have stacks and stacks of dishes in the large sink.

This works great with our new KitchenAid DW with built in disposer! Just a quick swipe of biggest scraps into the sink disposer and plunk the dishers right in the DW...I used to have a bad habit of basically pre-washing my dishes before putting them in the DW...now I never even turn on the water.
