i'd pick one of the less splotchy tiles to go with. you have spots on the granite. i don't think spots and splotches mix - at least not when up against each other. that's when they 'fight' each other. it makes it too busy.

the darker of the accent tiles (not the one with multiple tones and diamond shapes) would then be ok to be sprinkled in every so often...

isn't there the chance of messing up some of the wall if you remove the granite back splash that is there? I know that doesn't seem to be so in right now (I see a lot done both ways tho). they are already there so it'd be less hassle and expense to keep them. Also less tile, less grout.

I've debated on whether or not to have that 3-4 " edge put around my counter top and I'm going to go with it. i like to paint the rest of the wall between upper and lower cabs and then just put a back splash over the stove area.

Thanks for your reply. I've lived with the existing tile for awhile, but I think I'm ready for a change. We know that we may have some drywall repair to do, but are prepared to fix it..

Can you tell me which tiles you are speaking of when you say splotchy? I think I know which ones you mean, but just want to verify.
