hardware -- Amerock quality is disappointing..

All,

We decided to go with Amerock hardware for our kitchen. Since nobody around us had enough knobs in stock, we decided to mailorder the items.

Well, the quality of the knobs, to put it frankly, SUCK!

We ordered 27 knobs. We looked at 17 out of the 27 and gave up looking at the rest. The knobs had swirl marks on them, scratches, and gouges in some of them. Of the 17, only 3 were "acceptable."

It must be a QC issue, since the pulls we ordered look fine. When we go to the store to compare (diff finish), all their knobs look fine as well.

I've emailed Amerock to see what they have to say about this. It's for the BP19008-SS knob.

I hope their customer service is outstanding. These knobs retail for close to $10 each! (what's strange is that the exact same knob at OSH goes for $2.xx when bought in bulk with a Satin Nickel finish -- we want a stainless steel finish)

I'm going to Amerock instead of the vendor since I'm sure the rest of the vendor's stock is probably the same.

As a side note, I had a finish problem with a TopKnob product. I emailed them and they said "that should not be the case, we'll send you another one right away." No mess, no fuss. I hope Amerock is the same!

Sorry, just venting..

Oh, I am sorry to hear that! Our crystal knobs for our Butler's Pantry and my dd's bathroom are Amerock and turned out very pretty (they were installed last week.) I hope they replace your knobs with acceptable ones!

I feel your pain. I had a similar problem with a hickory hardware pull. I ordered 47 pulls. After opening around 15, only a few were usable. After looking at them closely, I realized it wasn't the shipper; it was that the finish was just too soft. The shipper was awesome, though, and sent me a postage label to return. He even issued a full refund before I returned them! Wishing you a similar experience.

I did decide to change hardware....

We have had good luck with our Amerock, so I hope they'll fix the issue for you! Ours are ORB, so who knows? Good luck!

Yes, I am waiting to hear from Amerock tomorrow. I actually plan to call them first thing in the morning. I'll be sure to let the forum know how they react.

The other option is to get the satin nickel knobs. The color matches, but they "shine" compared to the stainless steel pulls. Or we'll have to find another manufacture.

I'll call the vendor as well to get their take on this. I don't believe that it's their fault (for the most part -- they did send me 4 knobs that were "opened" already and none of those passed from a QC perspective. They never should have sent those to us.) *sigh*

I've used Amerock before with no problems (on some small furniture, not my kitchen). Ours were ORB which perhaps is an easier finish to get right.

    Hope things keep working out...

We do care. Or I do at least. Please let us know the outcome.

    Another update!

    Good news, bad news...

    Good news:
    -vendor talked to Amerock
-Amerock agreed that it's possible they have a QC problem, plus due to the "weight" of stainless steel, they can get nicked
-Amerock is going to grab 30 knobs, and bubble wrap them and send them out!

    Bad news:
-Amerock has to send it to the vendor first, then the vendor will ship them to me, so that'll slow everything down

Overall, I'm happy with the response from Amerock and the vendor. Hopefully the knobs they send will be in perfect condition.

My cabinet maker was really surprised when we described the condition of the knobs to him. He stated Amerock made a quality product. It looks like it might be a QC problem, but Amerock and the vendor is stepping up to resolve the issue.

I'll post more as this progresses! Hopefully I'll have some pictures of the knobs installed as well! YEAH!

    hi boogiewoogie...

I definitely care! I've been following your thread with interest.

I'm glad Amerock stepped up for you. I hope the knobs will be up to standards this time.

Wish you well and thanks for keeping us posted. :)

Having the same quality issues with Amerock and Build.com. We have returned drawer pulls now for the 3rd time and the ones we kept were not without scratches, nicks and tarnishing. My recommendation would be to look for a different vendor.
