Microwave Shelf...Please Help!!!

I need to decide on a microwave shelf size and it is driving me crazy!!! How do you know what size to make the MW shelf? How deep? How wide? How high? I don't want to build a shelf for a particular MW because I want to be able to replace it if it goes out, but there doesn't seem to be any standard MW size.

I have also read that there are clearances for MW's but I can't find any clearance requirements listed online. How do I find these requirements without buying the MW and looking in the owners manual? Do the MW dimensions listed take into account the required clearance?

I have enough space for a 24-27" microwave cabinet and I want to be able to use the counter underneath. How deep can I make the MW shelf without losing the ability to use that counter space?

What MW do you have and what is your cabinet size? Any help will be appreciated. My brain hurts!

rhome410- If you read this, I looked up your MW and the depth said 19 7/16" but I know your cabinets are 19" deep. You also said you could probably have used narrower cabinets and still fit the MW, so what does this mean??
