You're not likely to find what you're looking for on Craigslist. Change your criteria. Accept white or black and full depth and you can probably find something for under $500. You can probably even find a full depth stainless one for around $500. That should hold you for at least a year or so until you can save the money for what you actually want. Then you can resell that fridge as well.

How about the local re-use store? When we donated our kitchen to them last year, they lent us a stainless steel, full depth (I think) LG French door fridge/freezer for the duration of the renovation. So that would be another place to look and you could see it in person.

also check any local scratch and dent outlets, like a Sears outlet or appliancesmart

I agree that CL can be good *if* you broaden your requirements. A counter depth fridge would probably be difficult to find, even more so than stainless (which still wouldn't be easy).

By the way, I don't know your background, but did you know that if you/your spouse is retired or active military, you can get 10% off everything at Lowes and Home Depot? If you go to those stores on a military holiday (Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and..I forget the other one), you can use that in addition to any other discounts that they have on those days. We got all of our appliances for our new house on Memorial Day - really saved a lot..don't know if that would apply to you, though.

My CL has counter depth SS fridges, sold by places that refurbishes appliance (range 300-600.00) with warranty.

Kenmoon, I think it will depend upon the population size of your target area whether you can realistically find this specific item from an individual on CL. I wanted the exact item as you from CL two years ago in preparation for a total remodel. It took me a month or two religiously searching CL twice daily to snag my item. I bought a 2 yr. old Kitchenaid which was part of a divorce settlement and paid around $1000. However, I live in Houston so the odds were in my favor. Sometimes for large ticket items it pays to expand your target area to include other cities within a certain distance. I'm doing that right now in searching for a high end sofa set of a certain style to recover. Good luck and congrats on your new home.

In our area, you will see these on CL from individuals, but we also have a good selection of used appliance stores, smaller stores selling floor models, and overstock specialists (factory and distributors takebacks and refurbs). But if things are really tight, use your network to spread the word. many people have old fridges sitting in their garages (like me) that would be willing to give away for very cheap -- these could be an interim solution.

We had a problem in the area with empty houses being stripped of refrigerators, or foreclosed owners stripping their houses after repo. These would end up on CL.

I live in a large city and found my counter depth, built in fridge on Craigslist. It was a few years old and had a repair, but it was what I wanted and an amazing price! I did have to pay over $200 to have it delivered to my house, so that added to the cost. But I did save over $5K buying this way.

My criteria for Craigslist, is make sure you get a good sense from the person on the phone. If I don't, then I tell them it's not what I want. This was in a high end home in a high end neighborhood and the person selling was very polite with good manners. That may seem a bit strange, but I think trusting someone's used appliance requires a bit of trust on the person you buy from as well.

My fridge is still great after 3 years and I've more than gotten my money's worth. To top it off, it's the perfect fit for my home. Don't give up on Craigslist! And, it's much easier to find the things you are looking for, if you put out an alert on list-alert.com.
