Yes, the design stinks. We have one sitting unusable in our pantry right now. This was supposed to be the "new, improved" design that was backordered. We're not sure where the problem lies, but it doesn't travel smoothly on the track, and our custom kitchen shop will probably replace the bottom glide with side glides.

27 inches seems a bit wide for a useful pullout pantry. Would you be able to reach things from both sides? You might want to consider a cabinet with low internal full extension pull out drawers instead. I have an Ikea 24 inch one and it holds a ton of stuff, can pull out each drawer/shelf one by one so that everything is accessible without having to leave "reach in" space on top.

The Hafele (how DO you pronounce that??) looks great but it's awfully expensive!

I'm leaning towards a stack of drawers behind two hinged doors. Yes, you have to open them both to pull out the drawers, but I'm training myself to do that with our French door fridge.

Mine is 12 inches and I ordered it in Woodmode. The insert looks similar to the Brookhaven above, but Brookhaven was using a white wire one at the time and it was 15 inches. I liked the Woodmode better and it turned out that I needed that piece in Woodmode for width and finish anyway.

The tower is very sturdy, but I use mine for cans and bottles and 12 inches is a good width without having to fish for things on the shelves. I would not feel secure about loading up something more than twice that width with heavy things. It might be okay for boxes and lighter things, but I'd do a pair.

This is exactly what I did. Two 11" units side by side in a 22" cabinet with two different door fronts. (You can get away with that because there is no center wall to take up 3/4".)

have you looked at lee valley's wire pantry pull outs? Good price, three widths and LV always has good quality.

I just came across the blog and wanted to provide some additional insight.

I know that Rev-A-Shelf's customer satisfaction is a priority and that they have been sending out the "New" 448TP Wood Pantries and slides since last month. In short, it might be an issue with whom you are purchasing them from...I would contact Rev-A-Shelf directly for help finding a supplier that has them in stock.

As the "NEW" Design it now features their new adjustable rub bushings that provide for more stability and limited side-to-side movement of the product in the cabinet and on the slide.

Finally, the image of the Hafele unit is NOT solid wood and if comparing to the 448TP originally discussed you are not comparing Apples to Apples.
