runners

I have a wonderful vintage low dresser with a marble top that we use to anchor the area behind the sofa that floats in the middle of the room. But for as wonderful as the dresser is the top can look sort of cold so I wanted to warm things up with some sort of fabric runner... I have the right fabric and I do sew so now I just have to pick a style of runner.. Square end?.. pointed ends? with a tassle? ( dated???).. trim on ends or all around? Ack.. such a small thing but it has me flumxed!

Do you have a pic of the dresser in the room?

Maddiemom, I can't answer your question but I wanted to say good to see you back. How are you and your crew doing? What have you been up to with your house?

Just my opinion, but I would not put a runner on this dresser. I wonder whether they have some sort of stain that can be used on marble to give it a warmer beige tone. It looks pretty as it is and I'm not sure that the material you've chosen might not be too bright and busy. Also, since you already have a pattern on the couch pillows the two might end up fighting it out. I think you have a nice arrangement right now if only the marble could be made darker. I'm sure somewhat at Home Depot or Lowe's would know if you're at all interested in that idea.

Please don't screw with the marble color, no matter what the big box store says. It's appropriate to the style of the piece. In addition, you really can't change the color of marble, unless you etch it completely and then try to dye it by staining it....which would look like crap and not hold up.

I'd do a square edge with a small tassel on each corner or just some fringe on the short edges (the parts hanging). The reason I'd do this verses a pointed edge is it mimics the lines of your chairs (the leather one's I see in the distance).

That side of the room needs some red to balance the red of the chairs so I think I will stick with the red. In real life the marbel does have a bit or cream to it and in the summer I like it plain, I guess in Winter I just like to warm things up a bit. Same goes for my curtains, in the summer i do simple panels, in the winter I do taffetta weighted curtains with valances.. It makes the room feel very cozy.

I am going to sew tonight.. I will take a photo in the morning.
