please post pics of where you keep your bread

We are finally moving back into the new kitchen and I am working with less storage space than before remodel due to having to take down a wall to join the kitchen and family room. Would love to see where and how you store your breads! THANKS!!

    Hi Ann.

Sorry this photo isn't a close up.

My bread is kept in the bottom drawer, in the pantry area to the left of the fridge.

It may not be ideal for a lot of people, since it is rather low down, but in my kitchen it works fine. The drawer is large and deep and I can get at least 3 loaves in there plus a package of buns and other things too.

I didn't want a bread box on the counter. I had them before and while I like them, I knew it would take up too much valuable counter space in this kitchen. Having said that, my kitchen still has a small area to be finished; the eating area so this may change if I find another place to put it at that time. But for now - it works, and I did specifically design that pantry area with that in mind.

Bread has been staying very fresh in there so it appears to have been be a good choice.

It's only DH and I so we keep our bread in the freezer...if we didn't, it'd mold before we could eat it....

Freezer, gluten free, my bread is expensive!

We have a narrow drawer stack with spices in the top drawer and bread and snacks in the middle drawer.

I have to keep bread in the fridge in the summer, but after the heat passes, I was planning to keep it in the upper corner cabinet, lower shelf.

Bread drawer in 18" drawer stack. It does seem to keep bread fresher longer. Plastic top slides open.

We also keep our bread in the freezer, as well as leftovers when we buy a dozen donuts, tortilla rounds, etc. If we put it in as soon as we buy it, it comes out as soft & fresh tasting as the first day. For the sliced bread, we pull off a couple slices as we need it and leave the rest of the loaf in the freezer. Same with all of the other bread products. I find if we put the bread in the fridge, it comes out more stale and not soft at all.

I Keep it in the fridge Being Only 2 and not huge bread eaters that works for me. I usually get 12 grain and other whole grain breads that are stiffer so I never really noticed that the bread is hard.

Before bread drawer I would keep it in the microwave!

Thanks everyone. This is one of those things I should have thought about BEFORE we finalized cabinets...oh well. Please keep the ideas coming...

I keep mine on the bottom shelf of one of the upper cabinets. Only because I hate it cold and don't like the looks of it on the counter :)

We have a 36" drawer base with a 36" to-the-counter upper cabinet above that functions as our main pantry area (on left in 1st pic). (We also have a deep but narrow closet pantry (to the right) that works better for big, less-often-used items). We keep bread and other snack items, etc. in one of the deep drawers (pic 2). Stays fresh for a good while here

Freezer. (You don't really need a picture of that, do you? ;-)

    Angie--no, i don't :)

You may want to do some more research on this (drawer versus refrigerator and freezer) on some of the cooking sites like Chowhound. There are lots of opinions and factors such as humidity in your house, how quickly you use the bread, etc.

Most of our food is in the walk-in pantry, but the most often used items get prime real estate in my main prep area. Bread is in a drawer in an 18" stack:

Ours is also in a deep drawer, along with the butter and peanut butter so it's handy for quick snacks.

    Another vote for the freezer!
I cut up a round loaf into quarters and pull out a quarter at a time.

Kids' gluten free bread is in the freezer. Gluten filled bread is stored up high in a cabinet, out of reach from kids and their babysitters.

Pantry. Never even saw a bread box or bread drawer growing up. I don't like bread in the fridge. Its too cold and goes stale faster. We've had threads about that around here before with scientific reasons about cold vs room temp storage.

If I buy a double Dave's Killer bread pack at Costco, I usually need to freeze some of it before it expires. Then I just use it for toast or toasted sandwiches.

    Thanks for the info everyone!

In an upper cabinet, above the toaster. I was inspired by the toast Kaizen video. Lower stack of drawers will eventually have small plates and some utensils.

Thanks...Still just the paper photocopies of the tile but we did order it. Look for install pix in September.

Old bat, you're going for it!?!
    I absolutely love it.
I've forgotten the color of your cabs; could you tell again?

    Sorry to hjack:
Freezer. I'm 1 person and forget I even have food, let alone bread.

I'm picturing a photo of 7 of my children's little tummies all lined up in a row. Bread doesn't last long around here. I probably should get off GW and go make some!

p.s. I love seeing everyone's storage spots. My bread usually sits on the counter until we eat it.

In the refrigerator. Just hubby and I so we don't go through it very fast.

Thank you for your timely post. My bread WILL go in the island and it will be in a drawer underneath the basket in the island which will be for onions and potatoes.
