I replied on your original post and just saw this one.
We are of the opinion that if you are going to stain darker, that you can probably stain right over the top of what you have done. If you are going to stain lighter, then you would want to sand and stain.
Hope this helps! You could also call customer service for Cabot and see what they advise. If going denser, then you should, again, be fine to stain over the top of what you have just completed.

Thank you! We are thinking of going the same color as the brick...we are afraid of the gray and not quite sure how it turned this color.
