Kitchen/Dining Re-do Done! Pics

Hello,

Here are some pics from my dining area that I have updated. Thank you all for your suggestions, I really do appreciate it! A special thanks to Magnaverde for going the extra step and creating the inspiration pic from my original room. White chairs were the 1st color that dh and I dismissed as an option! Yet magnaverde drew it, and we loved it! We will be replacing our black laminate counters in the next year, we had originally thought of staying with black, but are open to suggestions. Here are the results:

    Very very nice!

Mom2sethe--I love the changes you have made. Love it all. The bench looks so nice with those pillows and I think the mirror looks great there. You have done a great job. Could you send Magnaverde my way?

Thanks so much for posting an update. I remember following your earlier thread with Magnaverde's mockup of the chairs. I love the drum shade you added and the bench with the little pops of orange.

Very nice! Good for you. And thanks for coming back to post the before and afters!

It's always so nice to see before and after pics. I'm glad you're so happy with your space. I love that little bench with all the pillows!

Lovely. Are the chairs comfortable? I would have never thought to pair those together. I love the bench too. Where did you get it?

    Great choices!

Looks great! I especially love your pillows. Where did you get them?

I have to admit, I was doubtful when this idea was first discussed, but I like the end result a lot! Congrats!

    Thanks everyone!!

The chairs came from West Elm and are well made and yes, very comfortable. My dh was skeptical but was pleasantly surprised when they arrived. They are much more comfortable than our previous wood chairs. They curve to your body shape instead of fight against it.

Those awesome pillows came from Inhabit. They could not be more perfect for my room. I did a google search on "modern pillows" and there they were, in the exact colors that I needed! It was "meant to be". How often to you find pillows with ornage, white, green and brown in them?

The white leather bench is gorgeous! I bought it from ebay! It is an ebay store, Fornowdesigns - leather furniture concepts. We bought it based on the online pics and description. It is a beautiful, well made and well designed bench.

Congratulations, Mom2SethC. Your kitchen looks much fresher, now. You took a risk & it paid off. Too often, people toss out without adequate consideration the very things that would solve their problems, simply because somebody--their sister-in-law, the neighbor, somebody on some forum--said they didn't like the idea. When my clients listen to my suggestions, but then follow up with a counter-suggestion like "My mother said we should..." whatever: paint the bathroom tile; hang a scrolly iron doodad above the sofa; glue landscape waste to the wall--I always ask them "Oh, and when will she be moving in with you?"

I just have one comment for you & your husband: don't forget that before you rejected the idea of white, you thought of it. YOU thought of it. First ideas are often good ones: learn to trust your instincts. As Henry David Thoreau said, "Any man more right than his neighbors is already a majority of one." Half of my time is spent suggesting ideas that clients in Group A haven't thought of, and the other half is spent encouraging clients in Group B to ignore everybody else and go back to their own original idea. Often all people need is permission.

Thanks, most of all, for coming back & showing us your finished room. Lots of times, posters--especially new posters--will ask for help, keep us apprised of all the in-between decisions, show lots of close-ups of purchases, & lots of vignettes of throw pillows & candles, but then never bother to post a formal shot of the finished room as a whole, with the paint cans put away & the pictures hung. It's like watching a movie where they forget to show the last reel. Very anticlimactic. Thanks for the follow-through.

BTW, I'm not usually a pillow fan, but those on your bench are very cool. Happy is good.

Wonderful! Love the bench and the pillows...and the mirror goes well with the more traditional cabinets. The chairs look great, too! :)

    mom2sethc-

Wow! It really came together! Everything looks great, but I especially love how the drum shade looks with the orange pendants in the background. The whole place looks happy : )

Love the bench and the Pillows. Also love the color of your kitchen/dinning area.

Thats a great improvement and certainly met your goals for the space. I love the shape of the chairs and the updated bench. Well done.

I like the styles you incorporated. Your colors are really brought out with the white, its a lovely contrast. I do like your mirror with everything. Thanks for posting the photos!

    Hello Everyone!

magnaverde - yes...white was our 1st thought, but it went like this "well, most definately NOT white!" LOL!!! I love the pillows too, and another funny thing..when I was shopping for the 2 solid pillows to fill the space between the other 3, I was thinking green or orange. It was a lady in a local store that suggested brown. I never thought of it until she introduced it. I wish I could "see" these ideas myself. Happy is exactly what we think of the space! We all love the changes. Simple though they may be.

Thanks for your comments everyone!!! We're having a Christmas party at our house this month and we are so excited to have this space done.

    It looks great !!

Very nice! What shade of white or off-white is your drum shade?

Looks great! I LOVE the bench!

I just love how it turned out. Love your new bench and the pillows. Glad you kept the orange pendants as they really look nice with the new drum shade. The chairs look great with your table.

    I love it!!
Excuse the stupid question plse...did you simply add a drum shade to your original light fixture??

    Hello!!

Alicate - the shade is white white (not ivory or beige). Some of the pics above have the light turned on. When it is on, it has an awesome glow about it.

dd50 - we tried taking the orange pendants down and replaced them with the original white ones. It was just blah, we put the orange pendants back up. I do intend to replace them with a nicer pendant soon, but it will also be orange!

loribee - no, it is a complete replacement. We looked at a lot of drums, the one we bought was the first one that we took off the list! Simply because it was a little pricey. I just couldn't justify spending x amount of dollars for a shade! However, this one fit all of our criteria, so we got it. It is a really nice fixture, has a glass difuser in the bottom, it glows when it is on, and has a really nice presence otherwise. it was worth the money we paid for it!

    Hi Elaine,
I wanted to thank you for participating on this site and posting your info. I just replaced about 800 sq.ft. of tile and had picked the Graal Arras. I then searched for it here and came up with your bath/kitchen photos, which helped me to decide that I was making the right choice. I was just choosing the grout color and remembered that you had given that info too. I searched for your posts again and your choice of Fawn was a better pick than my quick pick of Haystack!

They should be finished laying all the tile today and will be grouting tomorrow. I went with the pattern with the 20x20, 10x20 and 10x10 tiles. My hardwood guy stopped by and thought it was Travertine! Thanks again :-)

Wow it all looks awesome. Love the pillows and bench too. What a neat idea.

chispa - I'm so glad that my pics helped you with your decision! I love this tile! It is beautiful. I'd love to see your pics when it is done.

Very cool! I noticed the light fixture right away, great choice.

I like to mix styles, myself. I like too many things to be locked into one aesthetic. I do have a suggestion, though. Have you thought about spray painting your mirror frame in a glossy finish? White or even orange, if you dare! Glossy Brown would be safe but still add a little modern treatment to your traditional mirror.

alex9179 - the mirror, LOL!! truthfully I'm just too busy to spend time re-painting it, so I live with. Maybe one of these days I'll have some fun with it! Thanks!

Love it! Very fresh and good looking! Bonnie
