Need fridge help, quickly!!

My refrigerator died this morning and since I had planned to purchase new stainless steel appliances for a kitchen remodel, I guess this is a sign it is time to get started! The problem is that I have not done much looking around and I don't want to make a huge mistake at the beginning. So, I am asking for your help. I 'think' I want a two door with outside icemaker approx. 25-26 cu.ft. This is what I have now. But, I do like the looks of the french door fridge. I would like to keep the price around $2,000 if possible.

Please tell me the brand of your fridge, if you like it or not and maybe where to get the best deals. I live in Kentucky (Lexington) and there is just my husband and me.

Please, please point me in the right direction. I figured I would have lots of time to shop around, but seems that is not going to be an option.

Thanks.

Stay away from Frigadaire! Repairmen have confirmed and we have personally experienced that their ice makers are prone to problems. We have a side by side and I'm patiently waiting for it to say die so we can replace it for a frige with french doors or even a single door. It's only 5 years old, but starting after the first year we keep getting ice build up behind the back. It gets so big the fan hits it making a horrible noise. Repairmen come out, say that it's due to water from the ice-maker, replace the ice maker and claim it's fixed but it's been replaced 3 times so far and now I'm not using it at all because I didn't want to pay for the extended warranty. Also, in my personal opinion side by sides are just not condusive for a family or someone who likes to cook a lot. I can't even store a tray of food in it when entertaining and I believe it's 28 cubic feet.

    Fridge:
    KitchenAid #KBRP20ERSS

is a 36" counter-depth and bottom freezer drawer and top door with internal ice-maker and water dispenser with filter.. the nice thing of this one that you can put custom panels on it.

That is a KA? And no exposed hinges? Wow! I love this site! I wonder if they have a fully integrated dishwasher that looks that good installed.

We had a fridge die about two months before our remodel was scheduled to start. I went to Lowes and bought a very basic 16 cu. ft. refrigerator to use until we needed the new one for the remodel. We now have the new one and moved the small one to the garage to store soda, beer, melons etc.

We bought a FD GE Profile 26 cu. ft. no ice or water in door, takes up too much storage space, ice maker in freezer and we truly enjoy it. Price was about $1900.

LOVE LOVE LOVE my new LG french door. 25 cf. I got the titanium finish, it matches perfectly my other ss appliances and NO fingerprints. it is SO roomy. and the hinges are hidden. NB, i got the icemaker in the freezer, and no water/ ice in the door. Reasons:
1 i think it is a cleaner look
2 service problems are usually linked to water in the door
    3 price - 1500 and change vs 2200 +

    good luck!

I have an LG French Door too and I LOVE it. Mine is SS. I also did not get the ice and water in the door -- I prefer the look without it. In fact, I've always had either ice maker problems, water problems or both so I didn't even connect the ice maker! :) I just make ice old fashioned way --yes, trays -- which is fine for me as I use about one tray a week.
But yes, I love this fridge and I paid $1350.

I have the 26 cu ft french door Whirlpool. No ice or water in the door, in stainless. Paid about 1400--1500 for it. When all is said and done, I am not wild about french door fridges. They are huge monsters. I don't really like having the freezer on the bottom. I think it makes for awkward organization. I think my old freezer on the top and fridge on the bottom had more space for things in the door and in the freezer.

We just had our Ge Profile French Door counter depth installed last week and so far love it. It is 21 cubic feet and is big enough for my husband and myself. It has the internal ice maker. GE gets a bad rap on here, but had my last GE Profile for 10 years and it still works fine, but changed to stainless steel with the remodel so sold that one. Good Luck

We bought the Jenn-Air French door counter depth model for our last house. It looked great but we found that it was easy to inadvertently leave the door(s) ajar. The mechanism is a little more complicated than a regular fridge, and it requires a bit more effort to close. It had a beeper to let us know when the door was open, but if we were in a different area of the house we didn't hear the beeper. Also found the bottom freezer to be a bit inconvenient.

We ordered a side by side for our new kitchen.

GE Profile SS, bottom freezer, french door, cabinet depth, 21 cu ft w/water-only dispenser in door (PFCS1NJWSS)...I'm OK with it. I do think the interior space is less than a comparable top freezer, but I've adapted. We had/have a GE Profile (white) standard depth, 25 cu ft since 1995...it's still going strong except the icemaker & dispenser died about 6? years ago (only top freezer w/ice dispenser on the market back then). It's going in the basement as a backup refrigerator.

    But...we paid $2,294.10 for it

I bought a LG CD fridge, no water/ice in door, and started using it about 1 month before the remodel, because I really, really hated my old fridge (we gave it last rites about 7 years ago). I've been very happy with it so far despite all the negative press you'll find about LGs on the appliances forum. I paid about $1800 for it at Best Buy on sale. I looked hard at the GE Profile CD FD but it was about $200 more and less energy efficient. Mine is 21 CF, which is just fine for my DSs and me. My neighbor has the 25 ft LG non-CD FD equivalent (which is less expensive for a bigger fridge, go figure), and she likes hers a lot too. I'm a big fan of the FDs because I can fit a whole pizza box or sheet cake in mine.

You could check what's for sale on the local Craigslist, Pennysaver, or similar to buy a temporary fridge -- people here seem to be always getting rid of their apt size fridges for $100 or so.

LaCusinie, answering your question -- no, mine is the 21 cf.. but -- it retailed for $1,500.00. I went to Best Buy and I bargained it down to $1,350.00. A friend told me to try bargaining my appliances and I gave it a shot! I dealt with the appliance manager -- told him I'd buy it on the spot for $1,350 and after a few minutes, he agreed. :)
