hands up for multiple dishwashers!

the below thread got me thinking: i've noticed many more people (myself included) installing two dishwashers. what else do you have in multiples? the larger kitchens may be sectioned in zones, which might require more than one wastebasket. i'm a little embarrassed to admit i planned for three: one in the clean up zone by the dishwashers and main sink; another at the prep sink/prep area and still another at the fridge/freezer wall where we also have (just one!) microwave, toaster and coffee pot.

ovens? yup. more than one. and that's all i'll admit to until i hear about others' excessiveness.

i believe we as consumers have a responsibility to outfit our kitchens with enough stuff to jump start the economy. ; *)

I saw on Bang for Your Buck once (don't we get annoyed with that show, btw?) in someone's kitchen they had a gas range at one end an an electric rangtop at the other (not induction, just electric--in fact I think it was the original one before the remodel). The comment was that since they did 2 cabinet colors, 2 counter tops and had two ranges, it looked like they added more kitchen to the existing kitchen, rather than really renovating. The owners were quick to quip back that they like to keep things warm on that other rangetop when they have parties. But it did make me think that it would be interesting to have 2 areas to cook in, for different cooks in the kitchen, I guess you just have to do it right.

But think about it, kates, people have 2 ovens, 2 sinks, 2 dishwashers (and the d/w thing isn't new--I saw this over 10 years ago in some kitchens), 2 fridges or even more (the regular one, the produce drawer one at the prep area, and the beverage one). I like the idea of 2 trash cans though for sure.

This will be interesting to see what people think.

I don't have 2 of anything in my kitchen---where would I put it?

    In a small kitchen.

2 cutlery drawers, at opposite ends.

    2 fridges.
One is under counter. It's 2 drawers.
Other one is in a large cupboard a few feet away from the kitchen.

3 ways to get water is what I'm planning to have...
One is a mixer for hot+cold
    Another is filtered.
    Another is instant-hot.

    1 sink.

1 oven. Not sure about getting a drawer microwave (drawer or built-in) or a speed oven. This is because the induction cooktop does so much, and we haven't even gotten an induction-ready pressure cooker yet. No toaster: we have found a way to toast on the induction cooktop.

Most people think we keep a kosher kitchen (there are a few in the neighborhood) but it's all for our cooking style.

2 sinks - farmhouse and prep sink in island

3 sources of water - 2 sinks and pot filler (DH and kids love the pot filler)

48" range including 2 ovens, 6 burners, and grill (plus grill outside patio door)

2 microwaves (smaller one will go once the kids are gone)

2 dishwashers (DH thought I was crazy but loves it now)

2 tapmasters (might get them for the bathrooms - love it)!

2 refrigerators including an undercounter one plus a freezer in the garage

2nd set of cutlery for the "sandwich" area (food allergies so we have to make all the school lunches; great to have a separate area for this).

2 chandeliers - one over island and one over table

4 cooks now that we have a larger, more organized kitchen

    2 dishwashers
    2 sinks/faucets
2 trashcans (next to each sink)
    2 cutlery drawers
2 freezers (bottom of regular fridge and a drawer)
3 refrigerators (regular large, beverage fridge, and a drawer)
4 ovens (microwave, countertop, 2 in 48" range)

and I need a larger freezer for the garage, too. Oh dear.

    Let's see --

2 DWs (first saw it in CA more that 12 years ago and loved the idea)

2 sinks (plus potfiller and instant hot) with 2 soap dispensers and 2 NeverMTs

    2 disposals

    2 towel bars

3 refrigerators (only one is in the kitchen, one in utilty room and the other is the drawers in the breakfast room)

2 freezers (kitchen and garage, plus freezer section of utility room fridge)

2 ice makers (kitchen and utility room fridges -- with 2 boys in marching band this year, love it!)

2 trash bins (clean up and prep sink)

2 pantry units (one rollouts and one pullout tower)

2 tray divided cabinets -- one for bakeware and one for trays and cutting boards)

    2 ovens (double ovens)

2 heating drawers (warming drawer and micro drawer)

2 drawers with knife block -- one on either side of island)

2 sets of measuring cups (both sides of island again)

2 designated cutting board areas (took one slot of the bakeware divider for that side of the island)

2 drawers with wraps -- one has baking parchment, foil, waxed paper and plastic wrap and the one on the other side of the island has foil, plastic wrap, waxed paper and storage bags

4 bookshelf areas for cookbooks (in kitchen, breakfast room and family room -- would have loved to have had one wall with a full length bookcase if I'd had the space for it)

    2 KA mixers

2 spoon rests -- one on either side of the cooktop

3 liners in my backsplash (to go with my 3 cabinet finishes, etc. ;-) )

    2 dogs to come investigate

2 cats to get under your feet and complain

2 boys to ask what's for dinner and when will it be ready

    :-D

The funny thing is that I would have told you I didn't have room to duplicate any of these things in my previous kitchen, with the possible exception of the spoon rests and the existing utility fridge (one with ice maker is new this summer). I have the same space, different cabinets and layout, and more work room and storage space now -- and it all works more efficiently.

2 trash pullouts - yes!! I love this. I have one in my prep zone and one where the traffic goes through.

    3 sinks

    People keep saying I have 3 dishwashers--I say it's 1 and 2/3. It's a F&P double dishdrawer and a single tall dishdrawer.

    I also have 2 ovens.

Dbl oven, 2 sinks, 2 dishwashers, 2 refrigerators, 2 mixers (1 KA, and 1 Bosch for large batches of bread).

I WISH we had the room for two dishwashers. We cook and entertain a lot. Some days the poor single dishwasher runs 4-5 times! They should make larger dishwashers :)

countrygal, each individual F&P drawer holds a little more than half a regular size DW, so basically have 2.4 dishwashers approximately. Not 3, lol.....

I had 4 F&P drawers in my previous large kitchen, loved them.
I used to entertain more back then.

Dacor tried a 30" DW and it required a new build or remodel to fit it in. Then it had problems (leaking, I believe) and folks were left with a 6" gap. I think that kind of killed the idea of larger DWs.

I never thought I'g get a 2nd DW in this kitchen, but we decided to go for it when we relclaimed a 3rd exterior door in the area to create a breakfast room hutch. The better use of our cabinet space with the frameless cabinets and design made a big difference too. I'm really glad we were able to do it. I got a bit silly with my list, but the DWs, fridge drawers and added prep sink are the things that make the biggest impact.

2 ovens, 2 sinks, and thanks to this thread 2 trashes. One will be under cleanup sink as a pullout and the other will be on the island, by prep, on the outer edge for snackers & visitors. I've been agonizing over where to put it. GW saves the day again!
